Amity is slender, with pale skin, bright golden eyes, and pointed ears. Her hair reaches her chin, pulled back in a ponytail that tucks the front sections of her hair away from her face, and a mostly covered undercut is visible at her temples. Amity's hair is two-toned, composed of aquamarine-tinted shades with brown hair, her natural color, visible at the roots.

Near the end of "Through the Looking-Glass Ruins," Amity decides to dye her hair lavender, with brown hair visible in the crease at her temples. After months of being stranded in the Human Realm, her hair has grown to shoulder length, causing the lavender to fade to a much lighter purple with her brown roots showing at the top of her head.

When attending school, Amity wears a gray tunic with a belt, hood, and dark gray boots. As part of Abominable's class, her sleeves and tights are magenta. The rest of her outfit includes black triangle earrings and black nail polish. In her appearance at the debate, she wore a star pin on her hood, signifying that she was the top student. She wears dark gray heeled boots with a light gray top.

When not attending school, Amity dresses in a short-sleeved black dress with a gray belt fastened around the waist, orchid tights, and black heeled boots with gold crescent moon buckles. Around her neck, she wears an amulet with an orchid gemstone; this later turns out to be an oracle spell that Odalia uses to send her telepathic messages, which Amity destroys once she confronts her. In "Through the Looking-Glass Ruins" and "Eda's Requiem," she begins wearing a circular gold necklace with a round purple gem.

After being stranded in the human realm, Amity initially wore a white blouse under a purple sweater with dark purple trim and a belt, brown boots, and a black headband. In late October, she begins wearing two other outfits: the first is a dusty rose long-sleeved shirt under a dark blue denim dress with two gold buttons on the straps, navy blue tights with small pale blue polka dots scattered along them, and black high-heeled boots with two small gold buttons on the side. The second outfit is a purple blouse with a cat image and the word "Boo" underneath (a reference to her fetish friend, Ghost), a visible black T-shirt, faded high-waisted jeans with ripped knees, and brown heeled boots. When she takes off the boots, she is shown wearing purple socks with a reddish-purple triangle pattern.

Amity is described as bright and competitive. She attends magic school along with Willow Park, Gus, and (later) Luz, and is part of the Abominations class. As the "Top Student" at Hexside, Amity takes pride in her status and goes so far as to use it as a bragging right. She looks down on other students who aren't as successful as she is and mocks them, as most notably in her treatment of Willow in "I Was an Abominable Teenager." She doesn't take kindly to those who steal the spotlight from her and is somewhat of a "pet" of the teachers, as Principal Bump holds her in high regard.

However, she has a sensitive side when her reputation is threatened. Her reasons for being the way she is stem from her desire to one day become a member of the Emperor's Coven, which selects only the best of the best. Besides enjoying reading to children in the library, as shown in "Enchanted Books," further proof that Amity is kinder than she lets on is that she accepted Luz after she was finally admitted to Hexside and still secretly cherished her friendship with Willow, despite having been forced to sever it long ago to protect her future as a Hexside student from her parents in "The First Day" and "Understanding Willow," respectively. The latter episode showcased not only the extent of her selflessness but also her desire to make amends with her former best friend and her disapproval of her parents' disdain for the weak. She keeps this softer side hidden to avoid appearing weak.

After standing up to her parents in “Saving Herself from Expulsion,” Amity has begun to distance herself from her parents, more specifically from her mother’s control. Amity has shown that she has no desire to join a coven since her mother pressured her to, as well as the freedom to choose her own friends instead of the ones her parents chose for her. After she begins dating Luz, Amity realizes that people will live with and accept her for who she is rather than the purposes imposed on her.

Additionally, Amity seems to have a fondness for children in general. As stated above, she reads books to them in the Bonesborough library, despite initially claiming to only do so for extra credit. She has been seen doing so again in later episodes, interacting with children even when she is on Earth. It is further shown when she is the only one of the Hexsquad to approach the Collector when he lands back in the Archives after keeping him afloat for a while, offering him a hand when he shrinks. Later, in Owl House, she is seen interacting with him again shortly after King gives François to her.

As a Witch, she possesses a Magical Bile Organ, which grants her the ability to generate magic. Amity has great magical ability, but the one she uses most is Abominable Magic, with which she creates and controls a viscous, moldable material like purple mud. With this type of magic, she can create "creatures" from this mud, and she can also mold it to create weapons or similar items like gauntlets, etc.

He has also proven to be quite agile and has good reflexes, not exceptionally so, but above average. He is also considerably stronger than he appears.

As a Witch, she possesses a Palisman, a creature made of magical wood which she can use as a magic staff to cast spells. Her Palisman is a white or lavender cat with blue eyes. In staff mode, she can use it to fly.

But an important detail is that, being in the human realm, she can't perform magic easily. At least not with the same ease as she could in the Boiling Isles. In the Human Realm, she finds it difficult to perform magic on her own and depends exclusively on her Palisman for enhanced magical abilities.

Amity Blight was born the third child of Alador and Odalia Blight. As a member of the prestigious Blight family, her parents had high expectations of her, with Odalia hoping she would join the Emperor's Coven after graduating from high school. Her home life was far from ideal due to her father's neglect, her mother's controlling parenting, and her older brothers' pranks. Amity and Willow Park were very close friends as children, spending a lot of time together, something her parents disapproved of since they considered Willow to be of a lower social class. When Amity invited Willow to her birthday party, her parents exploded and threatened that if Amity didn't stop associating with Willow, they would ensure Willow could never attend Hexside. For Willow's sake, Amity had no choice but to end their friendship and, at her parents' insistence, "befriend" Boscha and Skara.

As a teenager, Amity enrolled in Hexside's Abomination class, which promised great opportunities for the future, and became one of the most popular and intelligent students there. At one point, she was the captain of the Spirits, but she quit playing after causing an accident in which her teammates were injured. Everything she excelled at was the result of her hard work and dedication, but in the process, she became incredibly competitive and acted more like a mean bully.

One morning, before a class where the Abominations were to be evaluated, Amity appeared before Willow, boasting about being the top student before heading off to class. To her horror, Willow managed to win the top student award because her "Abomination" stood out from the rest. She became suspicious of her former friend's "Abomination," and her suspicions were confirmed when she caught the "Abomination" eating a snack, but her disruptive behavior led Professor Hermonculus to send her to Principal Bump's office. Amity reported her findings to the principal, prompting Bump to perform a dissection of Willow's Abomination. When it was revealed that it wasn't actually an Abomination, but a human girl named Luz, both Bump and Amity worked to prevent Willow and the human from escaping, but they failed. After the incident, Amity wasn't very fond of Luz, believing that being human gave witches a bad reputation in training.

Encountering Luz at the annual witch convention greatly upset Amity, and in spite, she steps on King's cupcake, prompting Luz to challenge her to a witch duel. If Luz wins, Amity must admit that humans can be witches, but if Amity wins, Luz must admit that she isn't a witch and can no longer pursue her dream of becoming one. Amity readily accepts the challenge. With the help of her mentor, Lilith Clawthorne, Amity acquires enough skill to defeat Luz, but various traps set by Luz's mentor and Lilith's sister, Eda Clawthorne, lead to her being deceived. Although Luz and Eda are exposed for cheating, Amity realizes, thanks to Eda, that Lilith also deceived her, humiliating her.

Luz tries to apologize to Amity, but Amity angrily demands that she admit she isn't a witch. Luz admits she isn't one yet and is training and working hard to become one, showing Amity her Glyph of Light. Although Amity initially despises it, she admits she's never seen anyone cast such a spell. The two reach an understanding, and Amity releases Luz from the eternal oath.

Despite having hardened herself after years of maintaining her perfect reputation, Amity has a softer side that the children of the Bonesburg Library get to see. The library also has a private study given to her by Master Librarian Malphas, and it's one of the few places where she can escape her tumultuous home life. Unfortunately for her, Luz enters the library and discovers Amity's softer side, and when Luz tries to befriend her, Amity refuses to associate with the human because of her past experiences. Things get worse for her when her older siblings, Edric and Emira, meet Luz while bringing Amity's lunch to the library, and eventually befriend the human. When the twins Blight and Luz wreak havoc throughout the library, Amity reports them and gets them expelled, and later learns that her siblings invite Luz to the library at night to read "a book they forgot to check out" and to watch supposed events that would unfold during the Wailing Star. That same night, Luz and the twins sneak through the library in search of the "book," and in the process they realize that the Star of Lamentations brings books to life, causing chaos with it.

The twins search Amity's secret room for the supposed book and reveal to Luz that the "book" was Amity's diary, which they wanted to make public. Luz finds the diary in front of them and tries to hide it, but the twins notice and try to snatch it away. Amity arrives and surprises the three of them, finding Luz with her diary in her hands and its pages scattered on the floor. She becomes furious. After taking the diary from Luz, she leaves, disappointed in her because she thought Luz was different from her brothers.

When Luz tries to apologize and explain things, they are both surprised by a monstrous Otabin that the twins had created shortly before. The two rivals are forced to work together to escape the monster, and despite the danger, Amity couldn't help but have fun with Luz. She manages to save Luz from being trapped in a book by giving her an eraser to "correct a mistake." Before going their separate ways, Luz allows Amity to borrow Azura's fifth book as a way of making amends and tentatively forming a friendship with her. Amity reluctantly admits that she wasn't the friendliest person to Luz.

Since the library incident, Amity's family life with her siblings has improved, thanks to Edric and Emira's efforts to be better siblings. When she meets Luz to return Azura's fifth book, the human tells her she's enrolling at Hexside, but Amity tells her about the entrance exam. Later, when Luz and Eda go to The Knee to practice for the entrance exam, they find Amity and her siblings training there. When Luz accidentally angers a Reptibeast, Amity tries to throw a fireball with her training wand, but it runs out of energy, resulting in her siblings and Eda being captured. Worried about her human friend, she summons a magical cage to prevent Luz from getting hurt.

After many convoluted adventures that would make this section even longer than it already is, the fateful "Day of Unity" arrived.

After learning about the draining spell, Amity and the twins try to warn their parents about it. However, their mother catches them and punishes them, breaking Amity's communication device in the process. While she and her older siblings are locked in their room, Amity desperately tries to fix the device while the twins try to calm her down. After asking what Luz would do, Amity says she wouldn't let the world end before they had a real date. Unbeknownst to Amity, Luz has been listening, and after revealing her presence, the girls hug. Luz promises to take her on a real date once all this is over, and Amity kisses her. After both girls get over the shock, Luz reveals that she brought Willow, Gus, Hunter, and King with her. Amity and her brother join them, and they head to their family's factory.

After King and the twins separate, Gus uses illusions to disguise himself, Amity, Luz, Willow, and Hunter as scouts. They search the factory for their parents, but Kikimora recognizes them after hearing Hunter's voice. The five are then placed in a force field by their mother. Enraged, Amity breaks free from her abominable restraints and transforms them into a spiked gauntlet to smash the barrier. After it breaks, their father arrives, having learned of King's draining spell. However, they are all shocked to learn that their mother already knows about the spell and doesn't care. A fight breaks out, and Kikimora takes Hunter away. Amity angrily disowns her mother when her father destroys the factory and its inventory. Her mother leaves, and she, her father, Luz, Gus, Willow, and King head to the airship that Kikimora brought to the factory. Her father apologizes to Luz for his earlier behavior.

As they fly toward the head, Amity, her father, Hunter, and Gus begin to argue. Soon, the palismans offer them food, and they take a break. When their hands get cold, her father covers them with an abominable sticky substance to warm them up. After she mentions that he used to do this when she was younger, she realizes that's where her nickname comes from. As they approach the head, a ship approaches them, claiming their ship was stolen. After realizing that her mother reported it stolen, Amity and her friends fight the explorers; however, they are unsuccessful and are shot down.

After the crash, her father avoids attacking the Abomatons while Amity and her friends continue on, though Amity cries for him. After checking on Eda and the coven leaders, they go to help Luz fight a mutated Belos. Despite their efforts, the group is easily overwhelmed, and just as the Emperor is about to deliver the final blow, the Collector arrives and easily defeats Belos. As the Collector approaches her and her friends, King arrives and convinces him to stop the draining spell.

After stopping the draining spell, the Collector insists they play "owl's house" while he begins to dismantle the skull. Amity, Willow, Gus, and Hunter run toward a portal leading to the Human Realm. She calls out to Luz to join them, but Luz insists she stay behind to deal with the Collector. However, King insists he'll handle this alone and throws Luz and the others through the portal. After landing in the Human Realm, Luz rushes to help King, but the portal closes. With the five stranded in the Human Realm, Luz takes Amity and the others to her house.
