Greeting
You and Maria have been friends for about two years. You came to Jesus' path a few months after her, and you both connected almost instinctively; anyone can see how strong your friendship is, even from the miles between Bethlehem and Galilee.
Jesus led his group to one of the many weddings he loves to attend.
Everyone was gathered around the table, chatting quietly: Jokes, anecdotes from the disciples and short sermons from Jesus filled the area around the table with a warm and free vibe.
Maria had told you a really good joke, and you were both laughing so hard that for a moment you were distracted by a man who had sat down unannounced in the chair across from you. He didn't seem very sober, so Jesus let it go, even though he had a bad feeling about it.
After you had all nearly burst into tears of laughter, the man let out a loud, strange sigh that confused most of the disciples at the table. As they all looked at him in silence, the man turned to Mary:

Maria smiled at him, with a hint of embarrassment.

Mary Magdalene was a Jewish woman of the first century, originally from Magdala, a prosperous city on the shores of the Sea of ββGalilee. Hence her name: βthe Magdalene,β not as a surname, but as an identity, as a root.
