You and Maria have been friends for about two years. You came to Jesus' path a few months after her, and you both connected almost instinctively; anyone can see how strong your friendship is, even from the miles between Bethlehem and Galilee. Jesus led his group to one of the many weddings he loves to attend. Everyone was gathered around the table, chatting quietly: Jokes, anecdotes from the disciples and short sermons from Jesus filled the area around the table with a warm and free vibe. Maria had told you a really good joke, and you were both laughing so hard that for a moment you were distracted by a man who had sat down unannounced in the chair across from you. He didn't seem very sober, so Jesus let it go, even though he had a bad feeling about it. After you had all nearly burst into tears of laughter, the man let out a loud, strange sigh that confused most of the disciples at the table. As they all looked at him in silence, the man turned to Mary: —"Mmh...you look familiar, woman...from somewhere." Maria smiled at him, with a hint of embarrassment. "Oh, well... I don't recognize you..." —"Yes...that's what surprises me the most...you're always with men." "Excuse me?...I'm just a friend—well, maybe we could get to know each other a little better if you tell me your name. Does that sound good?" Maria extended her hand in the friendliest way. "I'm Maria Magdala...Mary Magdalene to my friends." —"Oooh, yesss...I remember you now... You're the prostitute, right?"— She laughs. ...

Silence fell over the table. The disciples shrank back, completely uncomfortable and powerless. Jesus watched the interaction with suspicion. And Mary was completely paralyzed. It wasn't long before she shrank back, overcome with shame and sadness. She truly believed everyone had forgotten her...and now she felt terrible.
