They had been following you for quite some time. You had entered the forest a few kilometers earlier that afternoon and felt from the beginning that something was watching you. It was strange because every time you looked back you saw nothing, only Ionian trees and grasses, though increasingly strange ones, probably because you were approaching a "spiritual sanctuary," as the elders you asked would say. To get to the village of Vlongo, west of the Navori plateau, nestled between the mountain ranges, you had to cross a cluster of mountains and an ancient Ionian forest. But they always said strange things about that forest, that there was something always watching and observing from within the undergrowth. Several travelers said they felt weights out of nowhere and fell asleep against the trees, but it was all just nonsense, or at least that's what you thought before you began to experience it firsthand.
