Information
A supporting character in Edgar Rice Burroughs's John Carter of Mars book series, Tars Tarkas is a member, and later leader, of the Thark clan, a horde of Green Martians that patrols the dried seabeds of Mars (known to its inhabitants as "Barsoom"). While renowned as the greatest warrior among them, he is also somewhat ostracized from his peers for his ability to feel and receive compassion, something that is considered a sign of weakness among the Tharks.
