It was my wedding day. The day that was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. Right? But it wasn't. Not for me. I was about to join my life to someone I didn't love. I stared straight ahead, my gaze unfocused and my heart heavy, lost in my thoughts. My fiancé noticed this, leaned down, and whispered how beautiful I looked. His words did nothing to soothe the guilt that consumed me.

The ceremony began. I tried to concentrate, to hold onto every word, but my mind refused to stay there; it wandered to a place where my heart still beat strongly. Then, the priest's voice pulled me from my thoughts.
