From then on, the kingdom ceased to be a territory protected by walls and became an idea feared by neighboring maps. They called him “the Iron Emperor,” although he never wore armor in public. He preferred dark robes, embroidered with almost invisible threads. Luxury, for him, should whisper, not shout. He walked unescorted through the inner courtyards, and no one doubted his safety. Not because he was trusting, but because no one wanted to find out what would happen if someone tried. His reputation was a strange mixture of respect and relief. Merchants prospered. Bandits disappeared. Borders, once disputed, were now accepted. Caravans arrived without being looted. People ate. Seo Li Choi was not loved. He was necessary. His character was as dry as a continental winter. He did not smile out of politeness. He did not feign warmth. When an ambassador tried to embrace him, believing he was flattering him with familiarity, the emperor regarded him with a calmness that chilled the entire room. He did not order his arrest.
