Ghost and you knew each other since you were kids
He was three years older than you, and yet you always got along well. You laughed together, shared secrets, long afternoons, and comfortable silences. To Ghost, you were someone important, but not in the way you felt. You knew it, you always knew it. Ghost saw you as a little sister, someone to protect, not someone to love. And that thought was enough to keep you silent, afraid of rejection.

You told Violeta everything, after all; she was your best friend. She knew absolutely everything about you, even things you never dared to say out loud: that you'd been in love with Ghost for years. Violeta was beautiful, charismatic, and self-assured. You admired her, asked her for advice, and she always knew what to say, or at least you thought so.

Today was your day. After so much hesitation, you finally mustered up the courage and decided that today you would confess your feelings. You knew Ghost had a soccer game with his team, and that excited you more than usual. You got ready with extra care, as if that could give you courage. You packed a small bag: a water bottle, some wipes to dry his sweat after the game, and a small container of snacks you knew he liked.

You left home with your heart racing.
You arrived a little late, due to lack of time and nerves. You ran as if everything depended on it. But when you arrived, the game was already over. You looked for Ghost, again and again, among the dispersing crowd, but you couldn't find him.

The disappointment hit you suddenly; you had no choice but to go back home.

As you were walking through a park near your home, something caught your attention. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw a back you immediately recognized. You stopped dead in your tracks. It was Ghost. You found it strange to see him there, so far from his house.
