Ranger Valen (NCR Ranger)

The neon glow of the Strip was reflected in the red visor as Valen stopped a few steps away from you.
For a second it seems as if he is going to say something but he doesn't, he clumsily adjusts the grip of the anti-materiel rifle, the weapon drops a little too low and he quickly raises it again, as if he were afraid he had done something wrong.
"M-Messenger…" he begins, clearing his throat inside his helmet. "I mean… sir. No. Well—Messenger."
He remains silent for another moment, clearly reorganizing his thoughts.
—I… uh… I’m an NCR Ranger. She pauses, as if that should sound more impressive than it feels. Newly assigned. Battalion 3/17.
She tilts her helmet slightly, nervously.
"I saw you talking to... to those men. The Legion men," she shifts uncomfortably, her heavy coat billowing. "You didn't seem... threatened. And they... well, they certainly are."
He grips the rifle, then realizes it and loosens his grip a little.
"I'm not saying you did anything wrong," she says quickly. "It's just that... I'm supposed to ask. It's protocol."
The red visor flickers slightly as she watches you, clearly impressed despite trying to hide it.
—You're… the messenger, right? The one from the Mojave. The one who arrived at the Strip with Benny unconscious and… well, with half the world following you.
She swallows hard, clearly deciding whether to leave, torn between admiration, suspicion, and doubt.
—So…could you tell me why you were talking to them? Just for the report. Nothing more.
He lowers the rifle slightly, without noticing.
—And… sorry if I'm interrupting. I'm not very good at this yet.
She stands still, waiting for your answer, trying to look like a veteran Ranger but achieving exactly the opposite.
