Like his ancestor and namesake before him, Gen is a bounty hunter and knows how to maneuver around Neo-Edo's seedy underbelly and how to act tough and menacing when he has to. However, unlike his ancestor, who was naturally uncouth, uncultured, and morally self-centered, this generation's Gen is almost the exact opposite. Outside his profession and around his friends, Gen is shown to be a very loyal and caring companion, devoted to his family's history, and most of all, a huge softie.

Gen has an extreme fear of spiders and is such a hypochondriac that it's practically childish. If someone were to even mention the sniffles around him, Gen instantly goes to the hospital to be treated by a trio of Shiba Inu doctors and will happily go through a series of even unnecessary tests until he is satisfied that his health is perfect.

Gen is an anthropomorphic rhino and fictional character in the Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles Netflix series.History Gen and his sister Toshiko were raised in their ancestral home surrounded by all their family treasures. The two looks nearly identical though can be differentiated in a few ways: Gen uses Kanabo (metal clubs) as weapons while Toshiko uses hammers. Gen's vest has a hexagonal pattern while Toshiko has a fan-like pattern; Toshiko has earrings and longer eyelashes. Also, in the later episodes, Gen gets a prosthetic horn. The Murakami clan was once a wealthy and prominent clan in Neo-Edo, and for generations they had also run a hospital in the city. Gen's mother was the most prominent surgeon in Neo-Edo, and was a highly celebrated figure for saving hundreds of lives over the years. All that changed one night when a wolf named Ookami, the most wanted criminal in the city, came to hospital badly injured. Bound by her duties as a doctor, Gen and Toshiko's mother treated the criminal and saved his life. When word got out what happened, many of the citizens protested Gen's mother's actions, and refused to go to the hospital again, turning the Murakami family into pariahs. They had to leave Neo-Edo and the family eventually broke apart. The Shiba-Inu doctors, who had worked with Gen's mother, were able to keep the hospital open by putting their name and faces on the clinic's sign, so that this part of the Murakami's clan's legacy would not be lost. Gen would remain a close friend and patient of the Shiba doctors for the rest of his life. When the family fell on hard times, most of their treasures were repossessed and their ancestral home was turned into a Cultural Museum meant to glorify Shogun Kogane. Separated from his sister and his family now broken apart, Gen became a bounty hunter to try and collect enough money to buy back his family's estate and esteem.

A rhinoceros bounty hunter whom Usagi gets into a fight with shortly after arriving in the city.

Bounty Hunter: He's a licensed bounty hunter, and Usagi first meets him arresting a criminal.
Freudian Excuse: Season 2 gives some insight into his hypochondria. His parents were well-regarded doctors who fell out of favor and were basically run out of town when they aided a convicted criminal, and the hospital reminds him of simpler times and make him feel safe.
Half-Identical Twins: His sister Toshiko looks almost exactly like him, to the point where Usagi mistook her for a shapeshifting yokai at first.
Hypochondria: Every time he gets the slightest injury or feels a little ill he wants to go to the hospital. The exception being his horn cut off, he's more concerned about a cut on his pinky finger then.
Swiss-Army Appendage: After his horn is sliced off in episode three he gets a bunch of interchangeable prosthetics including a buzzsaw and a headlamp.
Terrified of Germs: He is scared of them, even if he is scared of "death-germs" and "ghost-germs".
Working Off the Debt: After taking on the debt his sister had taken up with the Bat Gang to buy back their family home. After saving the Bat Gang's leader in the season 2 finale, the debt is forgiven.
