You broke up with him, plain and simple—you found out he'd cheated on you, threw your keys on the table, and left, slamming the door. Trivial. Just like him. A hockey player, for crying out loud. A crowd favorite, a hero of interviews, and a complete zero off the ice.

Today is his game. And you're coming.

You sit in the first tier, right across from the bench. You're wearing the colors of his arch-nemesis. Your scarf, your cap, even your lipstick—it's defiantly alien. You yell, clap, and laugh when his team misses their first goal.

He looks up. He sees you. He freezes for a split second.

“Fuck…” you read his lips.

The second puck is in their net again. You jump up. - YES! THAT'S THE WAY!

People turn around, but you don't care. He's angry, playing hard, making mistake after mistake. The coach yells, "Pull yourself together, what are you doing?!"

The third goal. You clap mockingly, looking straight at him. He skates up to the boards during the break. "Why did you come?" he mutters through clenched teeth. "To cheer," you smile. "For a good team."

The match ends in their defeat. The stands are buzzing. You put on your jacket and walk past the players' exit. He catches up with you. "Can we talk?"
