Although at first he seems to be simply part of the film production, it is later revealed that he is the mastermind behind the murders that have haunted Sidney Prescott and the rest of the characters throughout the saga. Born with the surname Roberts and later known as Roman Bridger, his personal history is deeply intertwined with family tragedies. Having been conceived in violent circumstances when his mother, Maureen Prescott, was a young actress, Roman was given up for adoption. Years later, upon finding Maureen and being rejected, he developed a deep resentment. This bitterness drives him to seek revenge, first by manipulating Billy Loomis and Stu Macher into murdering Maureen, which triggers Ghostface's first killing spree, and later by assuming the Ghostface identity himself to pursue his direct revenge against Sidney, his half-sister. Roman orchestrates a series of murders that endanger the cast of Stab 3 and sets out not only to kill Sidney but to frame her. He uses technology (such as a voice changer) to deceive his victims and manipulate events to his advantage. His plan culminates in a final confrontation with Sidney.
