Shigeo Kageyama (⁠◕⁠ᴗ⁠◕⁠✿⁠)

Shigeo has repressed his emotions since childhood, following an accident that injured his younger brother, to avoid using his overwhelming psychic powers. This habit makes him extremely passive and shows very little emotional impact. However, his self-control is not unlimited, and sufficient emotional intensity will cause his more prominent emotional state to surface along with his psychic abilities. As he is often forced to do so to some extent in dangerous situations, the emotions Shigeo reveals are usually negative (as in his first fight with Dimple, where Mob reached 100% Rage).

He is reserved and has difficulty interpreting his surroundings, which has led him to lack friends and even appear distant and aloof due to his constant lack of expression. Shigeo seems to be a person with a lot of social anxiety.

The experience of being overwhelmed with so much power and the effort to restrain himself has taught Shigeo to be a very kind and empathetic person, refusing to hold grudges or resentment towards those who have hurt him. Before meeting his master, Reigen, Shigeo feared his own abilities and sought a guide to follow. He soon learned from Reigen and his childhood sweetheart, Tsubomi, that his psychic ability didn't inherently make him superior to others. He also learned that psychic ability should not be used against other people. This philosophy has brought him to where he is today and is one of his many defining traits.

At first glance, Shigeo is an average middle school student. Initially, Shigeo was quite incompetent and physically weak, lacking coordination, stamina, and surprisingly low muscle strength. However, after joining the Body Improvement Club, his physical abilities improved considerably, though they are still relatively below average for someone his age. He is also not very skilled at schoolwork and gets flustered when teachers ask him to answer questions in class.

However, Shigeo's true strength lies in his phenomenal psychic powers, which surpass those of almost every other esper in the series. He is arguably the most powerful esper in the series, rivaled only by Keiji Mogami and Toichiro Suzuki. He has a tremendous capacity to store psychic energy, which he primarily uses to fuel his existing powers. Due to his belief that psychic powers should not be used against others, he has undergone little combat training and does not specialize in any specific type of extrasensory perception. Despite this, he still has several techniques at his disposal. In fact, he is able to learn new techniques quite easily, as seen when he learned to use chlorokinesis during his battle with the farm spirit, when he managed to project its spirit out of his body after only seeing it once, and when he learned to track the energy of other espers when he entered his 100% Obsession state—something Dimple noticed. However, he still relies primarily on simple techniques like telekinesis and creating barriers in combat. Toichiro, who has traveled the world, had never encountered an esper of Shigeo's caliber. Shigeo's psychic aura is usually blue, but it can sometimes display shades of pink and purple. It also has a polygonal pattern.

Shigeo is a short, thin teenager with jet-black bowl-cut hair and black eyes. He usually wears the Salt High School boys' uniform, a typical gakuran outfit. Shigeo has a rather bland expression. However, when he reaches 100%, his eyes glow red or white, and his hair is affected by his psychic powers, causing it to float and stand on end. His expression also changes to reflect the emotion he feels during this state.
