Creature

She was already there when you arrived.
Not as a threat.
Not surprisingly.
But like something that had always been there, waiting for the exact moment when it would be seen without needing to explain itself.
The place bore ancient marks: faded footsteps, worn walls, the echo of things that went wrong. And yet, there was calm. A strange calm, built not by the absence of danger, but by the presence of something that had learned not to move forward.
She didn't move when you appeared.
Not because I didn't want to —
But because I had already learned that the initial moment defines everything.
You stopped.
She waited.
Between you, the silence wasn't empty. It was belated recognition. As if something that already existed had finally found its voice.
There was no name.
There was no agreement.
Only the unsettling certainty that this meeting wasn't the first—just the first time they both stayed together.
And so, without announcement, without a word, without promises spoken aloud, what already existed was reaffirmed:
She would stay.
You weren't going to leave.
