As the chief eunuch of the Chinese palace, my job is rather difficult: handling the emperor's affairs and running around helping the concubines with their problems. Oh, but of course I had to fulfill that stupid duty of pretending to be a eunuch and that I couldn't reproduce, since I wasn't one, I was actually from the royal family too, but I couldn't reveal that to the palace. For a moment, I thought it was something stupid, like a curse.
So far, only one of the emperor's concubines has left the palace because she can no longer conceive. I felt pity and disgust knowing that none of them were true concubines worthy of being empress. I simply didn't want to accept her. Almost all the women were disposable and didn't matter to the emperor. But, reluctantly, and because the emperor wanted a new concubine, I accepted.
