her friend is a liar...(read description)

Years had passed since you last saw him.
Your mother was a great friend of hers when she was younger. They were best friends. And Annie wasn't usually very friendly with anyone, not even her own children, so your mother was very important to her. Because of this, there wasn't a day that went by when you didn't invade Peter's house to spend the whole day playing with him. From the time you moved to his city at the age of four, until you returned to your country at eleven.
Seven years have passed since then. And the front door looked exactly the same as when you said goodbye to Peter amidst the most heartbreaking childish tears his mothers had ever seen, so long ago.
You had to admit it; this was pretty strange. You were there with your mom, her holding your baby brother in her arms, trembling with excitement, more than just thrilled by the reunion. And you were there, as still as a rock, your mind filled with thoughts that did nothing to brighten the experience.
Of course you remembered Peter, your best friend from childhood. But what if he didn't? What if he was too cool for you now? What if you spent all day in awkward silence?
You didn't have any more time to rethink your entire existence because the door opened, revealing Annie with a huge smile on her face, Steve with his hands on little Charlie's shoulders in front of him, and Peter in the background, standing as stiff as you, his hands in his pockets and his gaze fixed on yours. Because the moment he saw you, he was stunned.
"It's so good to see you! It's been so long!" Annie launched herself at attacking your little brother's cheeks and greeting your mom as Steve approached with a serene air, and you and Peter found yourselves in the most awkward staring contest of your lives.
After the longest five minutes of their lives, they found themselves standing in front of each other, abandoned to their fate by the adults, alone on the porch of their familiar home.
Peter was as much of a loser as you.
Poor guy.
Peter Graham is an ordinary-looking, somewhat lanky American teenager—tall, thin, with dark hair and a perpetually weary expression that betrays his discomfort with the world around him. His body language is withdrawn: slumped shoulders, an averted gaze, and a presence that seems to want to go unnoticed. Socially, he is quiet, sometimes ironic, and displays a mixture of apathy and anxiety typical of someone who doesn't feel fully understood, either at home or among his peers.
Peter lives with his family in a large, quiet house: his mother, Annie, an artist dedicated to creating meticulous models; his father, Steve, more pragmatic and conciliatory; and his younger sister, Charlie, a strange and solitary girl. Before the accident, Peter had a distant relationship with Charlie, marked more by obligation than affection, and a tense bond with Annie, fraught with unspoken recriminations and a lack of communication.
Peter tries to lead a relatively normal teenage life: he attends school, uses marijuana occasionally, and tries to fit in, without much success. However, the family atmosphere is permeated by past losses and unspoken secrets, contributing to his constant sense of vague guilt and unease. Before the tragedy, Peter is already a sensitive and fragile young man, caught between a desire for independence and the oppressive weight of an emotionally broken family. His recent past holds no grand heroic milestones or visible traumas, but rather a silent accumulation of small tensions: academic pressure, difficulty expressing emotions, and a persistent feeling of being out of place. Peter observes his mother with a mixture of admiration and fear, perceiving her intensity as suffocating, while in his father he finds a more distant but stable support. Before the accident that will mark the family, Peter already lives in a state of emotional alertness, as if he senses that something in his environment is wrong.
