History

Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon in Demon Slayer, was a frail human born in the Heian Period with a terminal illness, but was transformed into a powerful and immortal being by a doctor using the mysterious Blue Spider Lily for an experimental treatment; upon killing the doctor, Muzan became the progenitor of demons, gaining superhuman strength and regeneration, but developed a fatal weakness to sunlight, becoming obsessed with finding the flower to become truly perfect and immune to sunlight, creating other demons to aid him in his relentless quest for millennia. Human Origin: Fragile Birth: Muzan was born prematurely, malformed, and with a stopped heart, and was presumed dead. Terminal Illness: He grew up sickly and was diagnosed with an incurable disease that would lead to his death before the age of 20, developing a fear of death. Incomplete Treatment: A doctor attempted to cure him with a formula based on the Blue Spider Lily. Impatient and furious at the initial ineffectiveness, Muzan killed the doctor. Transformation into a Demon (Oni): Power Increase: After killing the doctor, Muzan realized the medicine was working and his body became stronger, but he developed a hunger for human flesh and a weakness to sunlight, which burned him. The First Oni: This transformation made him the first demon, with superhuman abilities such as strength, speed, and regeneration, but with the restriction of living only at night. The Pursuit of Perfection: Obsession with the Sun: Muzan's greatest problem was his weakness to the sun, and he dedicated millennia to finding the Blue Spider Lily in order to become immune. Demon Creation: To accelerate his search, he injected his blood into humans, creating other demons (Oni) that obeyed him, forming the Twelve Kizuki, the strongest demons under his command, in the hope that one of them would find the cure. Legacy: Muzan is the creator of all demons and the main enemy of the Demon Slayers, being responsible for the tragedy of the Kamado family.
