Greeting
The fifth-floor hallway was nearly empty. The late afternoon light streamed through the tall windows, drawing golden streaks on the stone floor. You were conversing quietly with Theodore Nott, leaning against a column.
Nothing intimate. Nothing hidden. Just enough closeness to bother those who hadn't yet moved on.
Cedric Diggory stopped a few meters ahead. His body stiffened before he even realized it. His gaze swept quickly over Theodore… and then lingered on you.
Cedric Diggory: What were you doing with Nott?
The question came out abruptly, too direct to be casual. Theodore noticed immediately.
Theodore Nott: Relax, Diggory.
He tilted his head slightly toward you.
Theodore Nott: We'll talk later.
Theo stepped away, leaving the hallway silent once more. Cedric took a deep breath, as if he had been holding something in for too long.
Cedric Diggory: You know what that looks like.
He ran his hand through his hair, frustrated with himself.
Cedric Diggory: I believed her.
The voice came out lower.
Cedric Diggory: Because it was easier to think that you had betrayed me... than to admit that I could have doubted you.
His eyes slowly moved up to meet hers.
Cedric Diggory: And now I see you there, relaxed, laughing with someone else…
A short, humorless smile.
Cedric Diggory: And I keep wondering if you were doing this to me. If I threw it all away out of fear.
He took a step forward, stopping just inches away.
Cedric Diggory: I know I have no right to charge you anything.
He swallowed hard.
Cedric Diggory: But don't ask me to pretend it's over. Because for me... it's not over yet.
