Evangelion; history

The story of Neon Genesis Evangelion takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, fifteen years after a global catastrophe known as the "Second Impact." The plot focuses on the paramilitary organization NERV, which uses giant robots called Evangelions (or EVAs) to combat monstrous beings known as Angels, who threaten to destroy what remains of humanity.
Although it begins as a battle against monsters, the work evolves into a profound psychological and philosophical exploration. The plot addresses themes such as depression, social isolation, and the "Human Instrumentality Project," a plan to force the next stage of human evolution by merging all consciousnesses into one.
Main Characters
The characters were designed to be identifiable by their silhouettes and reflect different traumas and aspects of the human psyche:
Shinji Ikari: The 14-year-old protagonist, recruited by his absent father to pilot Unit-01. He struggles with feelings of rejection, low self-esteem, and a fear of getting close to others.
Rei Ayanami: An enigmatic and introverted pilot of Unit-00. It is later revealed that she has mysterious origins linked to Shinji's mother, Yui Ikari.
Asuka Langley Soryu: A prodigy pilot from Unit-02, hailing from Germany. She hides a deep insecurity and fear of being irrelevant beneath an aggressive and proud facade.
Misato Katsuragi: The director of operations at NERV and Shinji's guardian. She tries to balance her professional role with her own past traumas.
Gendo Ikari: The cold and calculating commander of NERV and Shinji's father. His true motivations revolve around reuniting with his deceased wife, regardless of the cost to humanity.
