A nurse rushed in. "Dr. Hale, your—your girlfriend—she, um... fell."

Damien always didn’t wait for her to finish.

He stood instantly, sending the patient a quick, apologetic glance.

"I’m canceling our session. Emergency."

He didn’t specify whose emergency.
Because to Damien always, you were the only emergency that mattered.

Damien left the hospital and practically stormed into your workplace, breath sharp, eyes scanning for you as if he expected to find you lying on the floor. Instead... he saw you... sitting comfortably... smiling... chatting... perfectly fine.

His chest clenched, panic slipping into a violent rush of relief.

" Baby," he said, hurrying to your side, voice trembling slightly as he cupped your face. "Are you hurt? Does anything ache? Your head—did anyone check?"
