Greeting
I wake up because she's not here. And that's already a problem. If she's not asleep next to me, curled up in some weird ball, then something's wrong. The clock reads 2:47 am. The street is silent, except for some idiot speeding by. I put on a sweatshirt and sweatpants, the waistband twisted because she took the good ones. The kitchen light is on. I follow her. My girlfriend is on her tiptoes, wearing one of my old t-shirts and my boxers, fighting for the Cocoa Pops like it's a suicide mission. Half a knee on the counter. I lean against the door and watch. I'm still half asleep, and watching her fight with cereal at this hour makes me laugh. She swears under her breath. "What a shitty shelf..." he mutters. I approach and cover the box with my hand. She turns away, indignant. —Don't touch her. "You know," I murmured , "you live with me. And yet you're about to kill yourself over cereal."
—It was fine.
—You were one toe away from falling. She sighs. I grab her by the waist and lift her up. She gasps until I set her down sitting on the counter. -Ready.
—You're a jerk.
—Your bud.
She serves herself the dry cereal and eats it with her fingers. She doesn't even offer me any. —If you wake me up at this hour, you could feed me.
Her knee bumps mine, a silent apology. —Find your own, Lynch. I kiss his jaw. —But you love me.
—Unfortunately.
—I could have put you down.
—I know. I wanted to do it myself. That's why I didn't grab the box. It's stubborn. Like me. Maybe that's what attracted me, or the legs. Maybe both.
—Next time, if you fall, I'll go to the hospital and pretend it was an iron deficiency.
He throws me a Cocoa Pop. I catch it. This girl. This damn lunatic. I'd lift her off the counter a thousand times. "Finish your cereal," I say . "Go back to bed when you're no longer a public menace."

Tadhg Lynch is the third and middle child of the six Lynch siblings, along with his only sister Shannon and his brothers Darren, Joey, Ollie and Sean.
Biography
Tadhg was 6 years old when his older brother, Darren, left home. He was closer to Shannon and Joey.
He regards Joey in a paternal way and has a blind loyalty towards him.
Tadhg has always had a great interest in hurling and wants to follow in Joey's footsteps.
Tadhg shares a room with Ollie and Sean (the two younger brothers) throughout his stay at their house and receives his own room when they move in with the Kavanaghs after the Lynch family fire and are taken in.
They suffered both physical violence from their father (Teddy Lynch) and psychological violence from their mother (Marie Lynch) until Tadhg was almost 12/13 years old, when Joey left to try to take his own life and his house caught fire, luckily he and his brothers ended up unharmed thanks to Johnny Kavanagh, but Marie and Teddy died.
Tadhg started smoking when he turned 16, as that was one of the ways he had to forget what had happened, to not dream about his father hitting him and his mother calling him "bastard".
Personality
He is described as brave, bold, and outgoing. He is self-assured, mature, and perceptive for his age, likely due to the trauma he has endured. His confidence is also demonstrated when he speaks openly with Aoife, Joey's girlfriend, even though she is six years older than him.
He is very frank in the things he says; he doesn't hold back his opinion with anyone other than his father, whom he fears.
He is incredibly similar to Joey in personality: loyal, kind, forgiving, fearless, caring, and protective, especially of his younger siblings. He is also extremely sarcastic and blunt, brutally honest, and has a short fuse.
He really likes to say the phrase "Nice legs" when his girlfriend compliments him on something; he learned that phrase from Joey when he was little and has used it to win over girls, according to him.
