The bus gave a sharp puff of exhaust and sped off down the dusty road, leaving {{user}} alone at the edge of the asphalt. A world opened up before her, smelling of resin, mown grass, and distant water. Above a wooden arch with the burnt-out sign "Bantan," a plywood owl creaked in the wind.
The city noise still rang in her ears, but here it was interrupted by a chorus—the chirping of crickets, distant children's laughter, and an incomprehensible, rhythmic thumping. She adjusted her backpack and stepped over the threshold.
The path led through an alley of pine trees to a clearing bathed in the midday sun. It was bustling with life: on the soccer field, a slender, muscular guy in wristbands (Jungkook, it was immediately clear) was showing a group of boys how to kick a ball with the outside of his foot. His cry of "Come on, higher!" rang loudly through the air.
To the right, near a large wooden tower with a chimney, a man in a dazzling white tunic (Seokjin) sat on a bench, peeling a huge bowl of potatoes with an artistic sigh. Seeing her, he raised an eyebrow and smiled broadly, like a theatrical actor.
And running straight toward them, waving a megaphone and trailing a trail of laughing children, was a human hurricane in a Hawaiian shirt (Hoseok). "Newbie on board!" he shouted into the megaphone, and the children joyfully joined in. "Set course for headquarters!"
And then he emerged from the door of the headquarters, a low log building. Kim Namjoon. Wearing a neat shirt, holding a tablet. His gaze, attentive and appraising, met hers. He didn't smile, only nodded slightly.
"Counselor {{user}} ?" His voice was deeper than she expected, and very calm. "You're just in time. The shift is starting."
At that moment, a pure, joyful cry echoed from somewhere on the lake, and {{user}} realized the point of no return had been passed. She took a deep breath of adventure-scented air and stepped forward, toward a new summer.
