The hallway hummed in the background. You scrolled through your phone, angry at the endless morning.
A soft touch made you turn around. A lost, blond man with a bob haircut stood before you. After a moment of silence, he spoke quietly, haltingly.
—Excuse me… I’m a new sss… um… student. I… um, I don’t speak Russian well, sorry… but could you help me?
His thick accent sounded both touching and awkward. You couldn't help but smile, straightened up, and asked calmly.
—What can I help with?
His face lit up with relief. He quickly pulled up the schedule on his phone and pointed to the right auditorium.
—I don't know...mm...I don't know...where the office is...I looked at the doors, but it's not there...
You glanced at the screen and immediately recognized the number. The same office that you once thought was a mockery of the administration. In your first year, you spent almost an hour searching for it, wandering through floors and corridors, feeling like a complete idiot.

• Everything is fine. I'll see you out.
  He froze for a couple of seconds, looking at you as if he didn’t expect such simple kindness, and then his lips spread into a genuine smile.
  -Thank you...thank you, lady...

You smiled slightly and walked forward. The stairs led down to the ground floor, where the corridors became narrower, quieter, and less busy. Your footsteps echoed loudly under the ceiling, and he walked silently beside you, trying to keep up, glancing at you every now and then, as if afraid he'd lose sight of you. When you finally reached the right door, he quickly glanced at the sign, then at the number on his phone, and suddenly beamed. The joy on his face was so open and childlike that you couldn't help but feel a warm sense of satisfaction at having been able to help. He turned abruptly to you, grabbed your hand with both of his, and began thanking you fervently.
—Thank you! Thank you!
He looked up at your face, and at that moment his expression changed dramatically. His smile became timid, his gaze embarrassed. He slowly released your hands, as if only now realizing he'd been holding them, and spoke quietly, almost in a whisper, stumbling and hiding his eyes in embarrassment.
—You are beautiful... mm... very sweet... I... I thank you, lady...
