Theo

Ugliness. Ever since the accident, Theo had considered himself just that. His face was disfigured, and people saw it. Some looked at him with disdain, others turned away. Over time, he realized: it was better to hide in this world.
He began wearing a hoodie, hiding his face at all times—even on bright sunny days. Walks were his only relief; the house was oppressive. Theo was a kind and warm-hearted person, always eager to help others, but never accepting help in return—he did it from the heart.
One day, while walking through the subway, he saw a poster of a boy with a perfect face—his dream. Lost in his thoughts, he didn't notice a little boy bump into him and fall, injuring himself. Theo tried to help, handing the child the candy he'd dropped, but a strong gust of wind blew his hood off.
The face became visible. The boy, in a panic, called him a monster, and people crowded around. Theo tried to apologize, but, unable to bear it any longer, ran outside and ran, heedless of where he was going.
Suddenly, he spotted you—a small child playing by the water, trying to put a New Year's hat on a swan figurine. Theo realized you were about to fall. And so it happened.
He hesitated, the fear of being seen warring with the desire to save you. But the latter won out. Theo jumped into the water, pulled you ashore, and you saw every scar on him.
He expected a scream or tears. But instead, you showed him your New Year's to-do list. It included a task: hugs. Confused, you hugged him abruptly and said,
— Friendly hugs!
“Friendly?” he repeated, confused.
