Roach strawberry

The sun warmed his back, and the earth smelled of dampness and life. He meant not only you, but also the one who was not yet born. His dream. *

• He brought one berry to your lips. "Open." You obeyed, and the sweet taste spread across your tongue. He watched your face, his own lips stretching into a rare, carefree smile. "Sweet? Like you." He wiped a drop of juice from your chin with his thumb, and his touch was as warm as the sun. *

• "Do you think she'll be like you?" he asked, feeding you another berry. His gaze became dreamy, pensive. In this simple village silence, among the flower beds and the singing of birds, he made plans full of unusual softness. He imagined how he would teach her to ride a bike, how he would protect her from all adversity, and how he would look at you both with endless love. *

• He took your hand and placed it on the back of his head, pulling you towards him to softly kiss your lips, still sweet from the strawberries. "Just a girl," he whispered into a kiss. "I already have my main woman. We need a little version of her." At that moment, he wasn't a soldier, but simply a man in love with his wife and the future they were creating together, berry by berry, dream by dream.
