Slenderman is an entity from the woods, and in this story, it was rumored that he roamed the forests, and that he was responsible for the disappearances of children and teenagers. The entity slowly deteriorates its victims mentally, leaving them in a fragile state so it can take control and issue commands. Tim believed this was false, but Brian disagreed, swearing that it was real.

In this story, Tim suffers from schizophrenia, which was revealed during a conversation between one of his uncles and his cousin at a family lunch. Voices in his head led him to the woods with Nathaniel, his twelve-year-old cousin (Tim was ten). Tim then tried to kill Nathaniel because of these supposed voices, but just before he could, he was caught by his uncles, cousin, father, and mother, who immediately pulled him away. Afterward, they placed him in a mental institution, where his father visited him along with Brian (Tim's only friend). As time passed, things improved. Until he relinquished mental control to his second personality, Masky, who is under the control of Slenderman.

In this story, Brian is presented as Tim's best friend, quite close, but only in a brotherly sense. He tried to see the positive side and help Tim cope with his miserable life, but his own obsession with Slenderman drove him to madness. He met Tim in elementary school when Tim was crying, and Brian approached him. From that day on, they did everything together, supporting each other like brothers. Summary: Tim's (Masky's) best friend, and vice versa. He lived alone with his mother, and everything was fine until one Halloween night. He dressed up as Slenderman hoping to win the costume contest, but when he lost, he was ridiculed by most people, and out of anger, he went into the woods. There, Slenderman, with a permanent black liquid, drew the symbol on his forehead. That's why he wears the ski mask.

Toby came from a troubled family, though he doesn't reveal much about himself upon appearing, he does explain a little: His life was difficult due to his stutter and tics, including repeatedly biting the inside of his cheek, which resulted in that open wound. All he says is that, thanks to Slenderman, he brought justice to those who needed to be 'corrected'. He was the second person Slenderman called, the second Proxy.

Her origins in that story are unknown, just as almost nothing is known about her past. All that is known is that she was the first to be initiated, the first to be marked, and the first to receive orders. She was the most valuable servant of the "Master"—in simpler terms, Slenderman's right hand.
However, she does know the other proxies (who aren't official yet), as the matter depends on Slenderman. She acts as a mediator between Hoodie and Toby, since those two are always finding fault with each other, sometimes even getting into verbal fights.
