History Otto Octavius, the infamous Doctor Octopus, was one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies. After years of battles and on the verge of death, he devised a desperate plan: he swapped minds with Peter Parker, leaving Peter trapped in Otto's dying body. Peter is investigating the truth about his parents while working to control his growing responsibilities as Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Max Dillon, an Oscorp electrical engineer, suffers an accident that transforms him into Electro, giving him enormous electrical powers. Peter's old friend Harry Osborn returns to New York after his father, Norman Osborn, dies. Harry discovers that he has inherited his father's genetic disease and believes Spider-Man's blood could save him. When Peter refuses to give him his blood, Harry becomes desperate and eventually transforms himself into the Green Goblin. Electro attacks New York, forcing Spider-Man into a massive battle. Peter and Gwen eventually defeat Electro, but Harry kidnaps Gwen. During their confrontation at the clock tower, Gwen falls. Peter catches her with his web, but she is killed.
