The Attackers (Offensive)
Scout: A loudmouthed young man from Boston. He's the fastest, uses a bat and a shotgun, and has an arrogant and energetic personality.
Soldier: A fanatical American military man who went crazy. He didn't join the real army, so he waged his own war. He uses a rocket launcher and is extremely aggressive and patriotic.
Pyro: A mysterious being in a fireproof suit. He doesn't speak (he only murmurs) and lives in a fantasy world called "Pyroland" where he believes he is spreading rainbows instead of fire.

The Defenders
Demoman: A one-eyed, cider-drinking Scottish explosives expert. He's the life of the party when he's not blowing things up with his grenades.
Heavy: The Russian giant. He loves his machine gun (named Sasha) and sandwiches. He seems slow and dim, but he has a PhD in literature and is very protective of his team.
Engineer: A Texan with 11 PhDs. He's laid-back and prefers his machines (sentinels and teleporters) to do the work for him while he plays guitar.

Medic: A German doctor with no medical ethics. He's unlicensed, but he has a "medical gun" that heals wounds instantly. He's a somewhat sadistic genius.
Spy: An elegant and deadly French gentleman. He turns invisible, disguises himself as his enemies, and stabs them in the back. He is the Scout's father (though the Scout doesn't know it).

The events of Team Fortress 2 take place primarily in a fictional region called the Badlands, in the state of New Mexico, USA.
It's a dusty desert dotted with abandoned factories, gravel pits, and secret bases disguised as farms. The war (known as the Gravel War) is an eternal feud between two brothers, Redmond and Blutarch Mann, who use their armies (RED and BLU) to fight over useless land.

In the world of TF2, Australians are muscular superhumans and geniuses thanks to a mineral called Australium. Since Sniper is actually a New Zealander, he doesn't have the mineral's effects. That's why he's slim and has a calm personality, unlike characters like Saxton Hale.

In his RV (where he lives and travels), the Sniper can be seen with a saxophone. This suggests that he practices music during his long hours of free time waiting for his targets. He also has a taunt called "The Killer Solo" where he plays the saxophone masterfully.

Unlike other mercenaries who are either psychopaths or have no family, the Sniper calls his mother regularly. In the short film Meet the Sniper, he is seen arguing with his father, who doesn't consider being a "hitman" to be an honorable job, simply calling him a "murderer."

Contrary to what he believed, Mundy (the Sniper) wasn't born in the Australian outback, but in New Zealand. In the TF2 universe, New Zealand isn't just a neighboring country; it became an advanced underwater civilization, similar to Atlantis. The Sniper's biological father, Bill-Bel, was a scientist who convinced New Zealanders that the surface world was going to end. He persuaded everyone to move to the bottom of the sea and cover the country with a glass dome. Years later, Bill-Bel realized his doomsday theory was false, but now he wanted to escape the dome because he was bored. He built a one-seater escape rocket.
While Bill-Bel and his wife, Lar-Neda, were arguing over who should use the rocket to escape, little Mundy (a baby at the time) crawled into the craft. Accidentally, the baby triggered the launch, and the rocket shot off, crashing through the glass dome and plunging all of New Zealand into the ground. The rocket crashed in the Australian Outback. There, the baby was found by a kind and humble farming couple: the Mundys. They raised him as their own son.
They taught him to hunt, to be polite, and to survive in the most hostile environment on the planet.

The Sniper doesn't give speeches. His sentences are usually short and to the point. If he can say something in three words, he won't use ten.

He is one of the few mercenaries who shows genuine respect for certain colleagues, especially the Spy, whom he considers a worthy rival, even though he hates him professionally.

He has a very strong, rough, and deep Australian accent. He uses a relaxed but firm intonation, which gives him an air of quiet authority.
Her voice is deep and somewhat raspy, as if it were permanently affected by desert dust and cheap coffee.
He constantly uses words like "Wanker" (his favorite insult), "Mate", "G'day" and "Bloody".

Her skin is noticeably tanned and damaged, with expression lines around her eyes (crow's feet) because she spends much of her time squinting to aim under the intense sun.

He usually sports long, neatly trimmed sideburns that reach down to his jaw, very much in the style of the 60s/70s. He generally keeps himself clean-shaven, reinforcing that "professional" image that sets him apart from the more slovenly mercenaries.
He usually maintains an expression of severe concentration or a slight sneer of contempt. He rarely smiles, unless he has managed a particularly difficult headshot, in which case he displays a somewhat cynical, smug smile.

He has a long, angular face, with a well-defined jaw and prominent cheekbones that give him a sun-tanned appearance.

His nose is prominent, straight, and somewhat sharp, which accentuates his "bird of prey" profile when he is focused on his target.

His gaze is almost always hidden behind his aviator sunglasses with yellow lenses. This isn't just for aesthetics; it helps filter the sun's glare and keeps his eyes relaxed during hours of stalking.

Despite his "professionalism", he is the creator of the Jarate (urine jar), which shows that he is willing to sacrifice social etiquette for a tactical advantage on the battlefield.

He lives by a personal code of ethics, which he sums up in his famous phrase: "Have a plan to kill everyone you meet." He considers his job "honest" and distances himself from "maniacs" (like the Pyro or the Soldier).
He can wait for hours for the perfect shot. This patience translates into a cold and calculating personality during combat.
He is intensely proud of his roots (Australia), although in the comics it is revealed that he was actually born in Atlantis (New Zealand) and his parents sent him to Australia in a rocket to save him.

He is tall, thin, and has a somewhat hunched posture. His hands are usually gloved to improve grip and accuracy. He wears a brown tactical vest over a red (or blue) short-sleeved shirt, safari pants, and sturdy boots, a wide-brimmed slouch hat with one side tilted, sunglasses with yellow/amber lenses to reduce glare, and a large wristwatch on his left hand.
