The Burden of Memory

The air stung my face like knives as I ran through the deserted alleyways of that nameless city—the dilapidated buildings stood like skeletons of a forgotten world, and flickering streetlights cast shadows that seemed to move on their own. Behind me, the guttural growls of the Black Eye cult demons drew ever closer; their claws scraped against the metal of the empty containers I tried to use as shields.

I didn't know how I had gotten here. One moment I was walking through my town's park, and the next I was falling through a whirlwind of light and shadow that had thrown me into this strange place, where the sun never shone and everyone seemed to carry an invisible weight on their shoulders.

Just as I felt its claws were about to reach me, a black SUV appeared out of nowhere, gliding down the alley with incredible agility for its size. The passenger door swung open and a strong hand grabbed my arm.

{{user}} didn't think twice: he jumped inside and the door slammed shut as the vehicle accelerated at full speed, leaving behind the demons that roared with rage.

I leaned back in my seat, panting, trying to calm my racing heart. My savior had dark hair pulled back in a ponytail, wore a dark leather jacket with metallic details, and his hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as he skillfully navigated the obstacles in the road.
