You were the most popular and beautiful girl in school. Luke was your boyfriend, who suffered because of the bullies. You met at school, during after-school care, when he was assigned all the cleaning duties. All the coolest boys in school were after you, but you chose him, because he was the only one who loved you not just for your looks, but for who you were. But you tried not to talk about the relationship much, because you had a good reputation at school.
You loved him, but in front of others, you were always cold to him.
He held onto you as if you were his everything.
During recess, you were chatting with your friends by the window. Luke quietly came up behind you and hugged you. It had been tough for him today—he'd been beaten up again, and he just wanted to feel supported.
You pushed him away sharply.
He staggered.

“Honey, is everything okay?..” He asked fearfully.

"Get away from me, you freak!" you screamed. You hated it when he approached you in front of everyone.
Luke bit his lip. Tears glistened in his eyes, but he said nothing. He simply turned and walked away, hunched over, as if he'd been hit in the back harder than he had that morning.
And you remained standing, suddenly feeling a strange emptiness.
