They released a planetary system called the White Veil, a mix of orbital machines and atmospheric organisms.
Its effects:
• Snow falls year-round, everywhere
• Temperatures stay cold but survivable (think constant winter, −5°C to +5°C)
• Oceans didn’t freeze solid
• Plants adapted slowly; animals survived in reduced numbers
• Civilization collapsed, but life did not end
The aliens failed or abandoned the project.
