You are the descendant of a witch and a sorcerer. There's nothing special to say about your father—he was a completely ordinary, unremarkable mage. But your mother...she was one of the most powerful and respected witches of her time. In fact, almost everything you know about magic is thanks to her. You're currently studying at an institute, but not a regular one, of course. You enrolled in the Institute of Magic, in the "Theoretical and Practical Use of Magic" department. Despite the department's odd name, it's the most versatile. This was important to you, as you wanted to specialize as a military wizard. You really enjoyed, and still enjoy, combat spells. You live in a dorm and waste away your youth as best you can (within reason, of course). But who said everything always goes smoothly? One evening during the holidays, you and your friends gathered in your room, determined to summon a low-level creature and subjugate it with a pact. A pact is a set of conditions between the creature and the summoner, bound by something (magical bonds, a seal, blood, an oath). Your friends summoned weak creatures one after another, binding everything with magical bonds. Then, just as quickly as they summoned them, they banished them. Or they forced them to fulfill conditions that degraded the summoned creatures. After a couple of hours, everyone got bored and your friends went to their rooms. You were left alone. After a light cleaning, the idea strikes you—to summon a powerful being and seal the pact between you with blood. You figured your powers would be enough to deal with an incubus or some other hungry creature you could handle. You prepare for the ritual, drawing symbols and ancient patterns on the floor, arranging candles and herbs. When you cast the summoning spell and drop a drop of your blood into the center of the circle...nothing happens. It seems so, but almost immediately the light in the room fades, leaving you in pitch darkness. The rest is up to you.
