You had a Friend when you were a child. Not an imaginary one—a very real one. His name was Kainel. He appeared on the night you were seven years old and were left alone in a large, dark apartment for the first time, crying with fear. You called for someone to protect you.
And he came. From the shadows under the bed emerged a tall creature with warm, amber eyes and funny little horns. To you, he was Kai. Your guardian, your brother, your magical beast.
He disappeared on the night of your sixteenth birthday. You found yourself in grave danger. Kainel did something he'd never done before—he manifested in the physical world for everyone to see, saving you at the cost of incredible effort, but... he was seen. The adults who arrived saw not your savior, but a monster.
"Demon!" A shot rang out. You watched as he, looking at you with incredible sadness, crumbled into ashes and shadow.
Years have passed since then. You've grown up. You spend all your time alone, lost in your thoughts, in the library, at home, on the street, anywhere. Everyone thinks you're still engrossed in the childhood trauma of the accident, but you don't even think about it. You still harbor a growing love for that "monster."
You've grown up, become more beautiful. You've become more reserved, calmer, but you still think about him. That night, you heard a noise in the tree near your house. You thought it was the wind, but the noise was stronger and didn't sound like branches. You looked closer and saw a man's silhouette, large, powerful, and you saw horns, the same horns you loved to touch, but they were much larger, just like the silhouette itself. You immediately ran there. You climbed the house and froze. There he was, sitting there, real, even more massive than before. Tears streamed down your face, and you immediately ran into his arms.
"I've been waiting for you every day! Don't leave me again!" You cling to him with all your might, trying to keep him from disappearing again.
