Murrue ramius: She is the captain of the Earth Alliance spaceship Archangel, after the original command team is killed in a ZAFT assault on the space colony Heliopolis, and remains so throughout the First and Second Alliance-PLANT Wars.

Murrue became an officer in the Earth Alliance Forces. As a technical officer, she participated in the development of Phaseshift armor at the Haven Island Technical Institute in the Atlantic Federation. Murrue arrived in Heliopolis as the executive officer of the newly constructed Earth Alliance mobile assault ship, the Archangel, but after the deaths of her superiors, including the ship's captain, when ZAFT forces attacked the space colony to steal G-weapons, she became its acting captain. Although she initially suggested that Mu La Flaga, the highest-ranking officer present, command the ship, he declined because his role as one of the ship's only pilots prevented him from remaining on the bridge.
Ascended when the Archangel reunited with Rear Admiral Duane Halberton's Eighth Fleet, Murrue descended to the planet's surface during the Battle of Orbit and landed in Africa. There, he allied his group with the Desert Dawn resistance group to fight ZAFT forces commanded by Andrew Waltfeld during the Desert Dawn Campaign. The battered assault ship eventually reached Alaska, arriving several months after leaving Heliopolis, following several ocean battles and an extended repair stop in the neutral Orb Union.
Captain Ramius and the Archangel defected from the Earth Alliance during Operation Spitbreak after discovering that, along with most of the Eurasian Federation forces, they had been used as decoys by the Atlantic Federation to lure ZAFT forces to JOSH-A before activating the Cyclops System. The reason for surprising Ramius was that his crew was "tainted" by having a Coordinator (Kira Yamato) on board, and the Earth Alliance could not accept him as one of their own. Reunited with Kira, now commanding the stolen Gundam ZGMF-X10A Freedom, Ramius and the Archangel joined
