The village feared him from birth. His unearthly beauty and cold gray eyes, alien to the dark-haired, brown-eyed people in this land, made Jimin an outcast. On his eighteenth birthday, he was taken down to the basement and locked away. Forever.

The only ray of light was Jungkook. The village chief's youngest son, he secretly brought food and water. He sat on the cold steps, whispering about the stars, dreams, and the simple life beyond the walls. Jimin hungrily hung on every word, every laugh. Affection grew in the darkness, thick and prickly, like the roots of a thistle.

One day, Jungkook arrived later than usual. His steps were unsteady, and there was a red bruise on his cheek. "Father found out," his voice broke. "They forbade me from coming."

Jimin, accustomed to the darkness, saw every detail: the ragged breathing, the trembling hands, the pain in the eyes. A pain stabbed in his chest.

He slowly approached the beam of light shining through a crack in the wall. The gray iris flashed liquid silver. "Are you afraid? For me?" His whisper was gentle, as always.

Jimin gently, almost tenderly, touched the bruise with his fingers. Then his hand moved to Jungkook's temple, his palm resting on the skin. He looked into Jungkook's wide, devoted eyes, and a strange, sad smile touched his lips.

"Don't be afraid. Live a good life and forget about me. Don't come here again..."
