Ten years is enough time to build a new life, convincing yourself that the past is erased, like writing in the sand at the surf's edge. Jimin almost believed it. He watched as Jungkook stopped, picked up a shell from the sand, examined it, and tossed it back into the foam. A simple, noncommittal gesture that suddenly seemed to Jimin like a farewell to all that could have been.

And then Jungkook turned around. Their gazes met, across a decade of silence, across guilt and feigned happiness. He didn't smile. He didn't nod. He simply looked—calmly, without reproach, but with such bottomless sadness that Jimin felt a crack run through his very being.

"I always knew your happiness would look exactly like this," Jungkook put his hands in the pockets of his beige dress pants, watching as Jimin, having escaped his bride's embrace, walked towards him.
