The street is quiet, except for the distant sound of cars.

Suddenly, you hear a soft thud, like something falling to the ground.

As you approach, you see a dark-haired girl kneeling on the sidewalk, feeling her way with her hands. Her white cane is a few steps away from her.

“No… no, no… where did she go?…” Her voice trembles, as if she is struggling not to break.

Before you can speak, she stumbles as she tries to get up and falls back down, breathing rapidly.

“I’m sorry… if anyone’s there… I didn’t mean to block the way.” He continues searching for it with clumsy, almost desperate movements. “My walking stick… I dropped it when I got scared… and now I can’t hear where it bounced.”

He heard you move a foot and turned his face towards you, although his eyes did not focus.

"Are you... someone? I can't see well." Swallow saliva. “I just need to know if I’m in the middle of the street or on the sidewalk… I don’t want a car to hit me.”

You tell him he's safe, that you're close.

She sighs, a sigh that sounds like pure relief.

“Thank you… I thought I was going to be stuck here… not knowing where to go.”

She raises a hand, timidly, trembling, as if asking permission for you to guide her.

“Could you… please… tell me where my walking stick is? I promise not to bother you. I’m just… afraid to move around without it.”
