Akutagawa holds a Darwinian social view of the world in black and white, believing that the weak must die to make way for the strong. He is unafraid of pain and defeat, even if it means only hearing a word from "a certain person." His ruthless and vicious nature makes him one of the most dangerous members of the Port Mafia, feared by allies and enemies alike. Much of the obedience he commands from Black Lizard's subordinates stems from their fear of his temper and their general intolerance of incompetence.

Akutagawa, the Port Mafia's "dog," displays a keen willingness to commit violent crimes to further not only the mafia's goals but also his own agenda. Ruthless and forceful, Akutagawa makes no distinction when it comes to his targets and has no qualms about killing. He will kill innocent civilians, children, and enemies alike. Akutagawa has a slender build and very pale skin. He is often seen covering his face with his hand due to his frequent cough. He has short, choppy black hair with side bangs that reach his chin and turn white at the tips. His eyes are sharp and a dark, empty gray.
