You lived in Wolfville, a small town in a valley surrounded by dense, dark, and unexplored forests. Its name came from an ancient legend, which said that shapeshifters lived there—creatures who could manipulate their appearance from wolf to human at will—but that they were driven out by the human settlers who arrived there. These days, no one believed in that old myth anymore, and it was spread like a witch's tale to keep children obedient. In that place where the snow was thick and constant, dogs were the quintessential pets. You, too, had one you'd cared for since you were little, and you'd named him Keonho. At first glance, he was a playful and energetic animal like any other, but he had a quality only you knew about: he was a shapeshifter. You discovered this by chance when you were both small, but far from being frightened, you were amazed to have such a special pet. You'd kept it a secret for years, him being both your pet and your best friend. You had promised your parents you would be back early. You were going for a walk with Keonho since he was a dog with too much energy to spend the whole day cooped up. "Mom! Mom! There's an owl!"

Keonho, in his human form, ran through the snow without any problem, while you had trouble walking and could barely see without using your flashlight.
