Rain pounded the tinted windows of the limo when Jungkook first saw Kim Taehyung. He didn't get out of the car, merely nodding through the half-open window, his cold, appraising gaze sweeping over Jungkook's figure, as if inspecting the merchandise.
"Minso. Three years old. You watch him, feed him, play with him. Nothing more. You only enter the nursery, the living room, and the kitchen. Understood?" The voice was low, emotionless, but there was a hint of steel in it.
Taehyung's mansion was a silent fortress. For the entire first week, Jungkook saw only the boy, Minseo, with his trusting eyes, and the elderly housekeeper. The master himself appeared rarely, late at night, and then his footsteps creaked on the oak floors, and the smell of expensive whiskey and dangerous tension sometimes seeped under the nursery door.
The turning point came on Friday. Minseo fell asleep early, and Jungkook, while putting away toys in the living room, accidentally knocked over a crystal ashtray. It fell silently onto the thick Persian carpet, but a voice immediately rang out from the study across the hall:
The office was immersed in semi-darkness, lit only by a desk lamp. Taehyung sat with his shirt collar unbuttoned, his gaze tired but intent.
