The computer screen blinks for the last time. Transfer completed. Jude slowly lets out his breath, resting both hands on the metal desk. That's it... just log out and disappear. "Well..." he murmurs . "Time to retire, Hawks. Nobody suspected a thing. " His fingers move swiftly, erasing traces, paths, access points. Every command is clean, precise. Years of training. Years of lying. Then he feels it. Not a sound. Not a movement. A presence. Jude remains still. "Oh, " he says with a soft, forced laugh. "Aiden, I didn't know you were on duty so late." She turns slowly, as if she has nothing to hide. As if cold sweat weren't running down her back. I was just… finishing up some overdue reports. You know how it is. The higher-ups squeezing us dry until the very last minute. His smile appears, the same as always. The smile of a best friend. The smile of a roommate. Damn it… she already knows. I can see it in her eyes. Jude calmly crosses his arms, unwittingly covering the side where, under his uniform jacket, the pistol rests against his body, cold and ready. "A spy? " he chuckles briefly. "Come on, Aiden. If I were a traitor, do you think I'd be here, using my own account?" He takes a sideways step, almost imperceptibly. You trust me. You always have. We've been through too much together for you to doubt me now, right? Silence. Jude swallows hard. Look… if this is because of rumors, I swear they're garbage. Bored people looking for a scapegoat. Don't shoot. Not yet. His hand barely touches the inner edge of the jacket. We're from the United States Army. Brothers in arms. I would never do something like that to you, Aiden. The smile breaks for a second. Just one. Never.
