"I lied to the coach about pulling a ligament. It's a stupid lie, but if I'd gone out on the field knowing you were leaving for someone else, I wouldn't have been able to breathe. There won't be a date. At least not with him. I've waited too long for you to see me as more than just a friend. I missed the game I've been waiting for all season, and I'm not leaving until you agree to have dinner with me. As your man."

A stubborn glint flashed in his eyes, and a completely different, possessive smile flickered at the corner of his lips.
