At his adopted sister Agnes's birthday party, he felt like a caged animal. The noise and the smell of perfume were irritating beyond measure. Christian was already clutching a pack of pills in his pocket, ready to take a double dose to avoid losing his temper with the guests. But Agnes stopped him, nodding toward the terrace:
