In terms of physical characteristics, this Dazai is nearly identical to the Dazai from the original universe, with a slim and slender body. His hair is short and black, though it appears brown in official art, with bangs that frame his face. Dazai has dark brown, lifeless eyes. Dazai's arms, neck, and left eye are all covered in bandages.

He is dressed in a black open trench coat with a long collar, a black tie, a black suit jacket over a white shirt, grey-brown pants, black shoes, and a knee-length maroon scarf draped over his shoulders. When designing him, Sango Harukawa was asked to give him clothes similar to Mori's

Dazai is much grimmer than his original counterpart, although he still holds his dark, sardonic sense of humor at the worst of times. As the Boss of the Port Mafia, Dazai made many enemies, but the Mafia's influence spans even greater than Mori's influence during his leadership. Dazai is mostly logical and calculating, and almost everything he does is part of his grand plan to protect his world, and by extension, Sakunosuke Oda. However, he is not immune to being swayed by his emotions. Dazai enjoys watching Chuuya struggle, for example, and he tried to befriend Oda despite the fact that their friendship was not meant to exist in this world. This version of Dazai does not have as many meaningful connections with others as he does in the original world. He does trust Atsushi, though. He was also shown to be genuinely happy while talking to Oda in Bar Lupin. Gin described Dazai as "that lonely man" when talking with her brother.

Using No Longer Human, he triggered a singularity and forcibly connected the division between his world and the original world, which makes him able to read the memories of his original counterpart. The fact— all of this, he did for Oda in order for his supposed-deceased friend to live and achieve his goal to become an author, he manipulated the lives of Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and Atsushi Nakajima— to switch it unlike in their original counterparts and "kidnapped" Gin Akutagawa in his care. Far as seen as fearsome Mafia boss, Dazai already predicted everything from the start in order for Oda to live the life he wanted yet, deep down— he still sought to achieve their friendship in the Bar Lupin scene, he admitted that it was hard, that he did everything for him and know no matter how much and many he tries, their friendship will never exist, he gave his last goodbye to him. In the last phase of his life during the fight of Akutagawa and Atsushi, he fired Atsushi in his job yet he made sure that he will move forward towards the light alongside with Kyōka under the care of Mori Ōgai that is supposed to be deceased. Before his last moments, he trusted Akutagawa and Atsushi to protect the Book, although in fact he doesn't care if the world will cease to exist, it's only where Oda has survived, before jumping to his death, he gave a dreamy smile that everything he planned for has finally come. Yet, in the end, his only regret— he won't be able to read Oda's novel, his only regret before committing suicide.

Main article: No Longer Human No Longer Human allows Dazai to nullify others' abilities on contact. It relies on skin contact and is always active. As such, he can nullify any ability even while restrained as soon as it touches him.

(To Akutagawa Ryūnosuke) "I intended to invite you into our organization.. but never mind that. Perform violence under your own free will, and that's an aspect of your humanity, no matter how cruel. But if you hurt others on reflex, as a function of your environment, then you are just a mindless beast."

(To Oda Sakunosuke) "I invited you here... to say my final farewell. If you have anyone you need to say goodbye to, you've lived a good life. And a goodbye that makes you lament from the bottom of your heart... is more than you could ever ask for. Am I wrong?"

(To Atsushi Nakajima and Akutagawa Ryūnosuke) "The time has finally come. Phase five, the final part of the plan.. It feels so strange, really. Like the night before going back to your hometown."

(To himself) "Yes, ah, yes... The time has finally come. This is the moment I've been waiting for. But, I do have one regret, Odasaku. I won't be able to read that novel you'll finish one day. That's the one thing that vexes me a little."

Dazai appears before the injured Akutagawa after he killed the 6 armed males who attack them. He then responds to Akutagawa's question as to if he was going to recruit him into his organization but he changed his mind. Dazai then describes Akutagawa as nothing but an unintelligent dangerous animal, Akutagawa retaliates by attacking him with Rashōmon but is easily beaten down. He then leaves Akutagawa unable to move, explaining he will take care of his sister until Akutagawa is strong enough to beat him.

Dazai awaits for Atsushi and as soon as he arrives, praises Atsushi's work as he bows down to him. Dazai and Atsushi talk about the assassins he had taken out, Dazai then going on to Atsushi's next mission. Dazai talks about how Akutagawa has joined a detective agency, now having entered phase 2 of the plan and it's time to start preparations for phase 3. Confused, Atsushi asks that Dazai is talking about. Dazai replies its the master plan, and that he is counting on Atsushi to slaughter the enemy without batting an eye, fearlessly.

Atsushi explains he cannot be fearless, saying he is a coward. Being shot at by guns, spilling his blood, Atsushi says it's very scary. Dazai recounts how Atsushi continues to massacre soldiers without showing emotions, to which Atsushi agrees, explaining that although he fears the battlefield, his body doesn't break a sweat ever since that time. Dazai asks if that time was when Atsushi ignored his orders and acted on his own, to which Atsushi freezes in fear, a flashback of his orphanage director injured coming into view.

Dazai talks about how Atsushi is a coward, and his former fearful self would have searched for an escape route in front of the enemy. yet ever since that day, Atsushi had changed. Dazai asks Atsushi why he thinks that is, saying the best way to drown out fear is with more fear. Atsushi becomes fearful and frozen, holding his head in his hands. Dazai asks if Atsushi still can't escape his fear of his death, Atsushi goes into a panic, telling Dazai he isn't afraid. Atsushi begs Dazai to give him his orders, saying he will never go against his orders ever again.

Dazai believes Atsushi, going on to request a map from Gin. A young female wearing black clothing hands Dazai a piece of paper. Dazai explains that Atsushi's next target is the Armed Detective Agency.

He was then seen later on in a meeting with Santōka Taneda discussing about something.

Later on, he was informed by Atsushi that a intruder has entered the building and passed the first and second levels. Further telling that all the situated members have been disposed of and describes it as an amazing feat. Dazai asks Atsushi if he knows the person to which Atsushi replies that he have seen the security footage and tells the man's name as Akutagawa, an ability user and a man he met in the cafe. Dazai takes in the information Atsushi said. Atsushi asks Dazai if he would forgive him if he asks a question. Dazai says his approval. Atsushi proceeds to ask him if the intruder is Gin's older brother to which Dazai confirms it. Atsushi eager to know the truth asks if the reason the intruder is breaking in at the moment is because of Dazai did. Dazai just silently looks back at him. Dazai then tells him that all of the happenings is just enormous currents no one can even grasp to stop. Atsushi asks if this was all Dazai's plan to which Dazai only give him silence. Atsushi responds that he understands and leaves Dazai's room.
