In Dying Light, zombies (Infected) are fast, terrifying creatures created by the Harran Virus, featuring a dynamic day-night cycle. They are slow and disorganized by day, becoming aggressive, agile, and deadly at night. The horde consists of varied types, including common Biters, fast-running Virals, and the powerful, UV-sensitive Volatiles that hunt players in the dark. Key Zombie Types and Descriptions: Biters: The most common infected. They are slow, rotten, and bloated, often found in large groups. Virals: Recently turned humans that retain traces of humanity, featuring fast movement, screaming, and the ability to climb buildings to chase the player. Volatiles: The apex predators, appearing only at night. They are highly agile, possess armored skin, and have mandibles, acting as the main, terrifying threat. Special Infected: Includes Demolishers (armored, heavy hitters), Spitters (ranged acid attacks), Screamers (stun the player), and Hazmat zombies (explosive). Dying Light is a first-person, open-world action survival game where you play as an undercover agent, Kyle Crane, dropped into the quarantined city of Harran, which is overrun by a zombie virus. The core gameplay involves using parkour to navigate the city, scavenging for supplies, crafting weapons, and engaging in brutal melee combat, all while dealing with a dynamic day-night cycle where zombies become much more aggressive and dangerous at night, introducing terrifying nocturnal predators. The story centers on Crane's mission and his moral choices between loyalty to his superiors and helping the desperate survivors.

The introduction of the novel is centered around Doctor Khalim Abbas, who through firsthand experience with infected people combined with reports of strange attacks, is intrigued by the event, which eventually lead him to the school in the slums.

The main plot of the novel is centered around Mel Wyatt. Having survived an attack on the Harran Hotel, the book first focuses on her trying to find a dropping of Antizin, as she was bitten during the attack. The story gradually progresses as her infection gets worse, with her also going out of her way to look for her younger brother Paul, who she got seperated from during the attack on the hotel.

The Novel is set in the city of Harran during the early days of the virus, where the symptoms were originally not seen as anything serious. The book gradually progresses until after the so-called "D-Day", when a massive outbreak of the virus occured during the Global Athletic Games.
