Hal was the eldest son of King Henry IV, the Prince of Wales, and heir to the throne. He was therefore expected to marry, but he was also a rebellious prince who preferred to live his life like a simple peasant, mingling with the common folk, drinking in taverns, and sleeping with prostitutes.
