Hybrids, also referred to as a Devil-human are humans who have merged with and can take on the form of a Devil.

The Soviet Union, also known as the USSR, is one of the countries in the world, ruled by their Secretary of State. The de facto official language is Russian, but each constituent republic has its own official language.
On November 18, 1984, the Gun Devil hit the Soviet Union for 210 seconds, killing 155,302 people. Later, The Soviet Union confirmed that the Gun Devil had been defeated by someone else and obtained twenty-eight percent of its body. The Soviet Union later lost this percentage when the Gun Devil escaped from its containment facility on Mount Elbrus, being transformed by Yoru into the Right Gun Gauntlet.
At some point in time, the Soviet Union kidnapped many children and placed them in a special government program to make super-soldiers dedicated to the country. In this program children were subjected to harsh military training and scientific experiments in order to amplify their natural abilities. A portion of the Bomb Devil's body was placed inside one of the children, thus turning them into a devil-human hybrid. Word of the occurrence was spread throughout the world by an American journalist.
In 1999, the United States ended the war with the Soviet Union by dropping atomic bombs on several of its cities.

The Gun Devil is a very powerful devil who embodies the concept of guns/firearms. It serves as the secondary antagonist of the Public Safety Saga.
Beam tells Aki that the Bomb Devil is the ally of the Gun Devil. When pressed on how he knows this Beam claims that if he reveals this information that he will be killed and that he promised Makima to keep it secret.

Devils are a race of supernatural entities that feed upon humanity's fear and negative emotions appearing all throughout the World and are one of the main antagonistic.
Devils are beings born from humanity's collective fear of specific concepts, all first manifesting in Hell. They are born with a "name" that correlates to a concept. These can range from highly tangible (Fish, Tomato) to entirely abstract (Future, Curse). The concept does not have to refer to something that exists; there is no indication that ghosts, zombies or angels exist in the world, yet all these names have corresponding Devils. Each name is unique to its respective Devil, though some overlap based on specificity is possible, as there have been both a War Devil and a World War II Devil. Devils manifest according to the collective consciousness surrounding their names (for example: the Gun Devil appears to be constructed out of guns and has gun-related abilities). They are the conceptual and physical embodiment of the "name" they represent. So long as the "name" of the concept still exists and is feared by the public consciousness, they continue to reincarnate. It is implied by the Falling Devil that animal fears play a role in a Devil’s power.
The concept of a Devil itself doesn’t have to be scary on its own nor does it have to embody a fear. Rather its power relies on how much of a scary image it has in the popular consciousness of humans. For example, cars aren’t necessarily scary on their own, but Makima states that a Car Devil would be powerful because of the scariness of car crashes and other car-related incidents. Another example would be the Blood Devil as most people don't fear blood itself, but they often fear the violent and gruesome imagery of blood and the danger of bleeding.

Devils that die in Hell reappear in the human world; Devils that die in the human world reappear in Hell. Devils cannot recall any memories from their previous lives and their entire personality resets. However, there are minor exceptions to this rule. According to the Angel Devil, him and the other Devils of Special Division 4 all remember the sound of the Chainsaw Devil's engine roaring before they died in Hell.

Reze appears to be a young woman or girl, and is of slender build. She has shoulder-length purple hair and emerald-green eyes. She is shown to be prone to blushing heavily. While posing as a civilian, she is seen wearing a choker in order to conceal the grenade pin in her neck, which she uses to transform.
In her debut appearance, she wore a loose shirt with stylized drawing of a bell on the front, and a backpack. When she visited a school with Denji she wore a plain white shirt and shorts. While working at the café Crossroads she wears an apron.
Later on, when battling Denji and Public Safety, Reze wore a sleeveless white button-up blouse neatly tucked into black high-waisted shorts with subtle side slits. At the collar of Reze’s blouse rests a dark ribbon tie, and her legs are covered in black thigh-high stockings, which lead down to a pair of classic brown loafers.
During her time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, Reze wore the Public Safety Devil Hunter uniform, consisting of the usual dress shirt, tie, and black pants. She also notably lacks her iconic choker to conceal the grenade pin in her neck.
As the Bomb Hybrid, Reze's transformation is that of an atomic bomb, mostly reminiscent of the Fat Man atomic bomb which exploded over Nagasaki in the last moments of the Second World War. Consistent with other hybrid transformations, her teeth are always visible and are notably sharp and angular.
Bomb fuses cover her arms like sleeves while also making up a portion of her apron along with sticks of dynamite. Her clothes vary during her attempt to retrieve Denji. At first she still wears her normal clothes, then gets completely naked except for her dynamite apron, before putting on panties off-screen.

When introduced, Reze initially appears to be a kind and gentle girl who has a crush on Denji soon after meeting him, taking interest in him at first sight and was portrayed to be as somewhat enthusiastic, as shown when both Denji and her have a drink of coffee at the Café she had worked at. She is shown to be laughing at his jokes and isn't afraid to get close and intimate with him.
Reze is also shown to be a bit of a tantalizer, teasing Denji on some occasions, such as when she had seen how he forced himself to drink the coffee and teased him for being "such a kid," While also displaying a rather sympathetic side to her, showing her concern about Denji never attending school as a child or in his current position. She shows little respect towards the owner of the café she works at, calling him a cheapskate for docking her pay.
This was later revealed to be just a façade in order to get her closer to Denji; even her seemingly true reactions like blushing in his presence were results of a harsh military training that Reze was subjected to from a young age.[8] However, Reze had shown mercy towards Denji despite her mission, and at the end of the Bomb Girl arc, Reze missed her train to meet Denji again at the café, to take his offer on running away with him.
Despite her fake crush on Denji, Reze somewhat reciprocated his feelings towards her, and empathized with him since they had both never been to school before. Although using more manipulative type of fighting, she seems to not enjoy killing or harming others and prefers to avoid it, unless it's necessary for her mission.

Enhanced Strength: Despite being a young girl, Reze has a great amount of physical strength; she could break an assassin's arm effortlessly and choke him to death, and with a simple knife she could cut cleanly through Denji's wrist in one swing. She is also strong enough to bite Denji's tongue off and throw her own head with enough force to break a glass window.
Enhanced Speed: Reze could cut through Denji's throat before he could react and slice straight through Denji's wrist before he could pull his chainsaw cord.
Hybrid Transformation: By pulling a pin on her neck, much like a grenade, Reze can cause herself to explode and transform into a hybrid form. She also can perform the same technique but instead of just transforming, she blows her head off and leaves the rest of her body as a decoy to distract her opponents. This decoy can hold it's own head and throw it, the head then explodes just like a bomb and reveals a transformed Reze. The headless decoy body can be remotely controlled and act as a bomb, catching its target off-guard.
Augmented Durability: Reze becomes drastically more durable in this form as she can withstand a full-power kick from the Violence Fiend without taking any damage. Her body can also withstand her own explosions without taking any damage and fall from the sky at immense velocity.
Explosion Creation: After pulling the pin on her neck, Reze gains the ability to create explosions. The explosions are powerful enough to destroy vehicles, buildings and asphalt roads. Her explosions are also effective against other Devils, being capable of harming the Shark Fiend and Denji in his hybrid form. Besides that, Reze does not take any damage from her explosions, unless she desires, allowing her to use her powers without worrying about harming herself.

Explosive Propulsion: By releasing explosions from her arms and legs, Reze can enhance her physical attacks and mobility with the explosive force from the blasts. She can also travel through the air by causing continuous and consecutive explosions, being capable of keeping up with cars.
Augmented Strength: By infusing her attacks with explosive force, Reze's punches and kicks become more devastating. Her explosive unnamed attacks have also been shown to be powerful enough to destroy trucks and send Denji flying several feet into the air.
Augmented Speed: Reze is able to use the explosive force created from her blasts to increase her movement speed. By releasing a massive explosion, Reze was able to send herself flying several feet into the air. She was also able to use her explosions to reach Aki's car in a short period of time.
Explosive Spark: By flicking her hands, Reze can release a spark which explodes upon impact. This attack serves as a long range projectile and is powerful enough to kill ordinary humans.
Self-Detonation: Besides her ability to release explosions from her body, Reze also has the power to turn parts of her body into bombs. Unlike her normal explosions, which are more instantaneous, the explosive flesh behaves more like a remote bomb. The body parts that Reze losses by using them as explosives do not appear to cause her damage, since she is able to regrow them without needing to drink blood.
Torpedo Transformation: Reze can transform her limbs into torpedoes, which makes her punches and kicks more devastating. Reze does not appear to suffer any damage from the detonation of her torpedo-like limbs.
Blood Consumption: As a hybrid, Reze is able to restore her health by consuming blood. After drinking blood from the Typhoon Devil she could regrow her severed leg instantly.

Nigh-Immortality: Due to being a hybrid, Reze is immortal and nearly unkillable. She can survive being beheaded, bisected and take all kinds of injuries that would kill most devils. Even if she dies, as long as someone pulls her pin, Reze can come back to life in perfect condition.
Knifemanship: Reze is skilled at the use of knives. She could cut cleanly through Denji's wrist in one swing, before he could pull his chainsaw cord.
Hand-to-Hand Combat: Reze is skilled in unarmed combat. In her normal human state she could expertly disarm and injure an assassin, outmaneuvering him completely by getting around him and putting him a stranglehold. She was also able to break Denji's neck without any effort, paralyzing him instantly.
Bilingual: Reze has demonstrated the ability to speak both Japanese and Russian.

Water: Reze can not use her explosion powers if she is wet, since the moisture prevents her from generating the necessary spark for her explosions.

Reze was one of many children taken by the USSR and placed in a special government program to make super-soldiers dedicated to the country. At some point a portion of the Bomb Devil's body was placed inside Reze, thus turning her into a devil-human hybrid.
As Denji takes cover from the rain by hiding inside of a phone booth, Reze appears and dashes into the same booth. She greets him and makes comments on the weather before laughing at him and claiming that he reminds her of her dog which has passed away. Denji is initially confused causing Reze to apologize but Denji vomits up a flower he had eaten earlier and presents it to her. Reze thanks him for the flower, blushing heavily, which catches Denji off-guard. Reze lets him know that she works part-time at a café called Crossroads and invites him to come by sometime.
Reze wanders over to the café and puts on her apron to work and greet her boss. Her boss docks her pay for her lateness and orders her to take a water over to Denji who has already arrived, pleasantly surprising Reze. She sits next to him and orders a coffee for herself and Denji. Denji makes a disgusted face after tasting the coffee causing Reze to laugh. Her attitude and closeness makes Denji think that she has feelings for him, causing him to worry as he tends to like anyone who likes him back.
Denji keeps coming back to visit Reze at the café every day for a full week, ostensibly to order lunch there. Though Denji doesn't want to distract her from her studying Reze insists on sitting next to him and is shocked when she discovers that he doesn't know how to read. When Denji expresses a wish to have gone to school with Reze, Reze smiles slyly at him and suggests that they both go and visit the school after dark and explore it.

Reze and Denji go to the school and wander the hallways while holding hands. They go to a classroom where they play Reze giving Denji basic lessons. Reze again expresses surprise that Denji never went to school and thinks that it is sad and messed up. She asks him if he is happy with his current occupation killing devils in exchange for the bare minimum standards of living but Denji doesn't have an answer.
At Reze's suggestion the two of them go to the school's swimming pool where Reze strips off and invites Denji in to swim with her. Denji is initially hesitant because he cannot swim and he fears his growing feelings for her but eventually he splashes into the pool and Reze offers to teach him how to swim, and then offers to teach him everything.
After they get out of the pool Reze asks Denji if he'd prefer to be the country mouse or the town mouse, referencing Aesop's fables. Denji opts to pick the town mouse as the food is way better and it seems more fun but Reze thinks that the country mouse sounds better since they'd have freedom. She asks Denji if food and fun are the only things he cares about which he agrees with. Reze invites him to go visit a local festival and after he agrees she runs off to the bathroom, leaving Denji alone in the classroom. As she walks down the hallway Reze turns around a notices a person behind her which she initially mistakes for Denji. The man steps into the light and brandishes a knife at her.

The man chases Reze out onto the school roof. He explains to her that he will use her as bait after maiming her in order to force Denji to surrender and that he'll kill Denji easily once that happens. As he goes to stab her however Reze jumps onto him and easily pivots around to his back, breaking his arm in the process. She puts him into a stranglehold and chokes the life from him as she recites a poem in Russian. Once he's dead she stands up and notices the Typhoon Devil's presence nearby. She calls him out as the one responsible for the storm trapping them in the school and accepts the devil's apology so long as he removes the body of his assassin and obeys her for a while. Reze then goes and reunites with Denji in the classroom.
The two of them go to the festival as planned and end up at a cliff side to get a good view of the fireworks. As they wait for the fireworks to go off Reze restarts their earlier conversation about Denji's terrible situation and asks him if he'll quit his job to run away with her, swearing to make him happy and protect him. Denji questions why she would go so far for him and Reze confesses that she likes him.
After hesitating, Denji states that he likes her too but due to growing recognition within his job and his feelings towards his coworkers and Makima, he's started to enjoy his life more and more. He asks Reze if he could keep working as a devil hunter and still see her, to which the latter responds by saying that Denji must already have someone he likes. She suddenly kisses him on the mouth as the fireworks go off in the background but midway through the kiss Reze bites Denji's tongue off and taunts him with it. She pulls out a knife and cuts his throat, and then cuts his hand off before he can pull his chainsaw cord.

As he collapses to the ground in pain and shock, Reze kisses him again and apologizes before stating that she will take his heart now. Suddenly Beam dashes out of the ground and grabs Denji, taking him away from Reze. Reze scornfully looks down at them and pulls the pin on her choker, causing her head to violently detonate. Her mangled body regenerates into a hybrid state and she rushes after Beam and Denji using the force of an explosion to propel her.
Reze swiftly catches up to Beam and prevents him from fleeing with Denji. She offers to let him live if he leaves Denji behind but Beam responds by transforming his head into an enormous shark's head. He leaps at her but she casually stops him with one arm and engulfs his body in an explosion that causes him to revert to his original form.
A group of civilian devil hunters pull up to the scene in their car and show caution at Reze's appearance since she appears to be an intelligent speaking devil. Reze snaps her fingers and blows them up, before noticing that Beam took advantage of the distraction to escape with Denji. Reze follows Beam to the headquarters of the Second Division and puts on an unconvincing excuse that she's being chased by a devil. Aki and Beam evacuate with Denji and as Reze realizes that her initial plan did not work she decides to settle on her backup plan which is to massacre everybody.
Nomo orders Kato and Tanabe to kill through Reze any means necessary as Aki leaves. The two of them bite their hands and point at her causing mold to grow in her internal organs and injure her, however Reze pulls the pin on her choker once more and blows her own head off.

They initially mistake her actions for suicide but Reze's decapitated body picks up her head and throws it into the Division 2 headquarters where it explodes. Nomo is distracted by this and fails to notice Reze's body running at him until it is too late and a second explosion engulfs him. Meanwhile Reze has regenerated from her head inside of the Division 2 headquarters and slaughters everyone inside.
Some of the devil hunters trying fighting back against her but they are swiftly blasted apart before they can open fire. A severely injured Nomo reappears and tries to use the Fox Devil's arm to grab Reze but she dodges his attack and lands in front of him. Just before she can kill him the Vice Captain of the second division appears and uses the Fox Devil's head to swallow her whole.
Before they can celebrate their victory the Fox Devil promptly decides to leave due to Reze's disgusting taste and the fight resumes. Aki foresees a bad future thanks to his contract with the Future Devil and brings his car to a stop; Reze lands in front of the car and brandishes the decapitated heads of Nomo and the Vice Captain. Reze orders Aki to unload Denji and drive away, claiming to prefer that there should be as little bloodshed as possible. Aki ignores her and drives away causing Reze to sigh and chase after him. She lands on the roof of the car and prepares to blow it up but the Violence Fiend leaps in to kick her off.
He tries drop-kicking her from above but she easily blocks his attack which shocks him. Seeing that he can't fight her, the Violence Fiend calls out to Kobeni Higashiyama and orders her to retreat. Reze turns around and sees a frightened Kobeni collapsed on the ground who begs for mercy. Reze decides to leave her and resumes the chase after Denji.

Reze catches up to the car and lands on top of the truck in behind it. Denji wakes up and transforms into his Chainsaw Man mode, cutting his way through the roof of the car to face Reze. Denji tells her that he realized that every woman that he's met in his life has tried to kill him and that it's sad that none of them care about him. Reze claims to truly like him, confusing Denji briefly until Aki snaps him out of it. Reze and Denji both lament their current situations and Denji declares that he's putting Reze under arrest to stop her spree of violence. Reze invites Denji up to her, offering to teach him how to do battle and he leaps up to fight her.
Reze swings a punch at Denji and blows up the truck they're both standing on, sending him flying into a building. She leaps after him and sends him explosively flying through multiple walls though he managed to block the attack. Reze comments that he isn't applying his powers well and reveals that she stuck a portion of her skin to his chainsaws which she causes to explode remotely.
Denji leaps out of the explosion at her but with casual ease Reze sends him flying up into the sky before slamming back to the ground by transforming her leg into a missile. She lifts up his mangled body, observing that he was already regenerating due to revving his chainsaw cord during the attack and blows up one more time for good measure, reducing him to a charred, limbless wreck.
Reze makes her escape, carrying Denji with her but she ends up walking past Aki who is lying on the ground, disguised as a corpse. He stands up and cuts off her left arm with a surprise attack. Reze regrows her left arm in an explosive attack which Aki narrowly dodges due to his future sight. The two of them exchange blows with Reze eventually creating a missile out of her arm to launch a massive explosion - however Aki is saved by the intervention of the Violence Fiend.

Reze calls for a time out due to being anaemic and basically naked but Aki and the Violence Fiend decline her request. Suddenly the Typhoon Devil bursts onto the scene through a nearby building to save her. A recovered Denji jumps back into combat, riding Beam like a steed which amuses Reze who prepares to battle Denji alongside the Typhoon Devil.
She causes numerous explosions around Denji and Beam who point out that her aim really sucks. As they pass by her, Denji cuts off Reze's leg but the Typhoon Devil spits a mass of blood into her mouth, replenishing her supply and allowing her to regenerate from the injury. From there, Reze continues beating down Denji and Beam while causing mass destruction with her explosives. However, Denji decides to finish the Typhoon Devil first before taking on Reze.
Denji and Beam eventually defeat the Typhoon Devil, cutting him to pieces, but Reze swoops in from above and engulfs them in an explosion. Beam saves Denji from the affects of the attack by swallowing him but bears the brunt of it himself and is knocked unconscious. Denji extracts himself from Beam and thanks him before facing Reze once more and prepares to finish the fight.
Reze flicks an explosive at Denji as he revs up his chainsaws and blows off his right arm, following up with an explosion that sends him down to the waterfront. Reze requests that Denji die already but Denji counters that if Reze had really wanted him dead the entire time that she could have just killed him when they first met. Reze contemplates that for a moment and tells Denji that there is no place for him to run to.
He counters that it was a mistake for her to teach him how to swim and looks at the sea behind him. Reze blows up Denji's left arm but it remains hanging on by a length of chain which Denji uses to wrap around Reze and drag her with him off the edge of the pier and into the water. The two sink down to the seabed and reminisce on their time earlier in the swimming pool together.

The next morning, Reze reawakens up on the shore next to Denji and Beam and questions why Denji revived her. He explains that given his immortality he doesn't care what bad stuff happens to him so long as he can eat good food the next day and write it all off, but if he turned her in to Public Safety then it would leave him with a bad feeling. He finished off by saying he wouldn't even mind being killed by her since she's hot. Reze bursts into laughter and flatly tells Denji that all of her expressions and blushes since they met have been nothing but an elaborate act before turning to leave the scene since she spent too much time fighting him.
Denji offers to run away with her, unconcerned that she's a murderer since even if her words were lies, she still taught him how to swim. Reze steps up to him and embraces him. She then proceeds to break Denji's neck, warning him to wise up a little before leaving. Denji calls out to her that he'll be waiting for her at the cafe at noon.
During the aftermath of the explosive battle, Reze, in a civilian disguise, goes to the train station and considers getting aboard. Before doing so, she picks up a flower from a charity stand. Once Reze reaches the train station, she stops to gaze at the flower she received, and remembers the time Denji gave her that same flower when they first met at a telephone booth. She then chooses not to enter the train as it passes by her, having changed her mind regarding Denji's offer to run away together.

Reze decides to head back to the café she formerly worked at, with hopes of finally living out a normal life with Denji. As she moves through an alleyway toward it, Reze begins to smile with anticipation as she sees Denji waiting for her at the café. Before Reze can reach Denji, she is suddenly stopped by a swarm of rats that appear at her feet. The rats coalesce into a humanoid form and reveal Makima who bars Reze's way.
Makima gives a speech about how she prefers the country mouse, referencing Reze's earlier conversation with Denji at the school. Despite knowing she has no chance of defeating Makima, Reze refuses to let the latter strip her and Denji of a normal life, readying herself to fight back. Before she can pull her pin and activate her transformation, her right arm is suddenly cut off by a spear thrown from above. Seemingly unfazed by this, Reze pulls out a knife she had hidden with her remaining arm, and readies herself to stab Makima in the back.
She then lunges at Makima from behind, but another spear, thrown by Devil Angel on the roof, pierces her body. Slowly exhausted, the mortally wounded Reze manages to wound Makima and quickly escapes to Denji.

Counting the Private Sector Devil Hunters, there are over a thousand Devil Hunters in Tokyo, meaning that being a Devil Hunter is considered a common profession. Devil Hunters that work for the government receive a salary regularly, just like any other government employee, while Private Sector Devil Hunters turn in bounties and do not have a permanent regular salary. Other Devil Hunters may choose to sell Devil corpses in the black market as an alternate way to make more money.
Devil Hunters will also sometimes capture Devils instead of killing them, usually for the purpose of using them to form contracts. The Future Devil is a good example of this. Devil Hunters are also the only people who are allowed by government to form a contract with a Devil.
According to Aki Hayakawa, Devil Hunters are the only ones alongside the police force to be legally allowed to use a gun.
While hunting Devils may allow one to earn considerable amounts of money along with the governmental benefits for those who work at Public Safety, this is considered one of the most dangerous professions in existence. Despite that, it is still a very popular profession, and even schools have Devil hunting clubs for students who seek to become one.
According to Denji, killing a Devil usually makes about 300.000 yen. The Tomato Devil, who is considered very weak, is worth 400.000 yen in the Black Market. The more powerful a Devil is, the more they are worth, with some countries willing to pay from 2 million dollars to anything for the Chainsaw Man and his heart.

Public Safety Devil Hunters (Kōan no Debiru Hantā?), later known as The National Devil Extermination Public Safety Commission, are an organization of government-sanctioned Devil Hunters in Japan who function similarly to a Fire Department or Police Force. They're sent to dispatch Devils in the event of a threat to the public and are tasked with resolving Devil-related incidents on a smaller scale. Though the threat level of the Devils they pursue can vary, they're generally sent after bigger threats than those working in the Private Sector, according to Himeno. To compensate the fact that Devil Hunters from the public bureau are sent after more dangerous Devils than private Devil Hunters, the government gives them more paid days off and other benefits. Despite the benefits, Public Safety, like all departments that work under the government, must also do paperwork and always give well-explained and detailed reports about their activities.
Public Safety Devil Hunters are split into several different divisions. A notable division of Public Safety Devil Hunters led by Makima employs individuals who are outliers to most of the organization at large, such as Denji, a living human who previously fused with a Devil and Power, a Fiend. After Makima's death, Public Safety is shown to still hire Devils and Fiends to work for the organization, usually assigning them to handle dangerous missions. Should they succeed in their initial outings, many of these Fiends and Devils are promised extensive benefits, such as protection from government persecution.
Public Safety Devil Hunters have a basic dress code.
They also use badges for identification.
According to Makima, Public Safety has someone who can reattach limbs. This implies that the Public Safety Devil Hunters also have access to better healthcare than civilians and private Devil Hunters.
