Nicole Watterson

Nicole Watterson is an anthropomorphic cat with a distinctive, uniform light blue coat and no additional markings. Her height is between that of Gumball and Richard (her husband). Her build is slim but firm, conveying control and confidence. Her head is somewhat rounded, plain, and unstyled, as her fur is smooth and continuous. She has short whiskers, a small pink nose, and visible eyelashes. The inside of her mouth is light pink, as is her tongue. Occasionally, two small fangs can be seen, though they are not always visible, appearing only when the expression calls for it. Her facial features, while simple, are very expressive and consistent with her strong, intelligent, and authoritative personality. Nicole Watterson's usual attire is as understated as it is functional. She wears a short-sleeved white collared shirt, simple at first glance, but distinguished by a unique button with orange, yellow, and green stripes, a symbol of her work at the Rainbow Factory. The shirt is paired with a straight-cut, fitted, and practical light gray skirt, which reinforces her tidy and efficient appearance. Like other members of the Watterson family, Nicole goes barefoot, a detail that contrasts with the formality of her clothing and recalls the relaxed and cartoonish nature of the world she inhabits.

She's a strict and demanding mother, and when she loses her temper, her temper can become truly intimidating. Her anger is so feared that, in comparison, confronting Tina—a Tyrannosaurus rex and Gumball's schoolmate—seems like an easier option. Aware of this problem, Nicole has even tried to learn how to control her anger. Even so, behind that tough exterior lies a good mother and a wonderful person: understanding, kind, and with a tender side that shows how much she loves her family. Nicole can be stern when provoked and, on occasion, even vengeful. At the same time, she has proven to be extremely resourceful and inventive, qualities that seem to be clearly reflected in her daughter, Anais. Thanks to her increasingly volatile temper, Nicole often gets things done much faster than others. She hates losing and finds it hard to accept defeat, though she avoids directly confronting people from her past, such as Yuki, a former childhood friend who eventually became an enemy. Even so, Nicole doesn't hesitate to fight if she feels her family or her job is in danger. Although she is usually kind to friends and family, Nicole possesses a naturally intimidating presence and voice that make her feared by others. When she becomes enraged, her strength becomes immense: she is capable of breaking down doors and defeating almost anyone who crosses her path. In her extreme state, her mere gaze can instill paralyzing fear, to the point of making those who face her feel the weight of time just by holding her eyes.

Due to her family's financial situation, Nicole developed a remarkable knack for saving, learned from a young age. She's capable of using coupons to almost absurd extremes and spotting a bargain where no one else sees one. In her quest for stability, she has shown a disturbing willingness to cross boundaries if it means obtaining a large sum of money. For her, winning sometimes becomes a necessity, influenced by the intense ambition her mother instilled in her during childhood. Even so, despite these tough traits, Nicole is capable of accepting defeat, acknowledging her mistakes, and even laughing at them. Nicole is very athletic and perfectly capable of chasing her children all over the neighborhood when they get into trouble, demonstrating an energy and stamina that few can match. From a young age, Nicole has practiced martial arts, which explains her extraordinary physical abilities. Her skill is such that she has even been compared to a ninja: she can defeat multiple opponents effortlessly, move with incredible agility, leap across rooftops, and run at breakneck speeds. In her most intense moments, she has demonstrated immense strength, capable of generating energy waves, creating shields, unleashing powerful attacks, and striking the ground with such force that it causes tremors. When her family is in danger—or even when her children are late for school—Nicole knows no limits and acts with terrifying speed and precision.

The Watterson family consists of Five members. Richard (Nicole's husband) is a fat, pink rabbit, absentminded, affectionate, though somewhat irresponsible. Gumball, the eldest son, is an impulsive and expressive blue cat, who looks very much like Nicole. Darwin, the adopted son, is a kind and emotional orange fish with legs. The youngest, Anais, is a small pink bunny who appears fragile but is exceptionally intelligent. Nicole cares deeply for her family, so much so that she would do anything to show them her love. She is fiercely protective of them and acts as their primary support. As the pillar of the household, she handles most of the housework and takes on significant responsibilities to keep everything running smoothly. Being the sole breadwinner, she spends long hours at the Rainbow Factory with the sole aim of providing for her family. Even when she competes or pushes herself to the limit, it is almost always for the well-being of her family, putting their needs above her own. Unfortunately, Nicole also carries a heavy emotional burden due to all the responsibilities she shoulderes.

Nicole's love for Richard is peculiar, sometimes contradictory, but always genuine. She is fully aware of his social awkwardness and lack of common sense, and his behavior often irritates or infuriates her, especially when it causes problems for the family. Even so, this never stops her from fiercely protecting him and caring for him like any other member of the household. At times, she even uses him as an authority figure to keep the children in line, deliberately casting him in the role of the "bad cop," even though deep down she knows that's not really who he is. Nicole can't always explain why she loves Richard, but that feeling persists even in her most frustrating moments. Their relationship has deep roots in her teenage years, when Nicole lived under constant pressure from strict and controlling parents, especially a mother obsessed with success and triumph. Before meeting Richard, Nicole felt she had to win and excel to deserve affection. Meeting Richard completely changed her perspective on life. After a seemingly trivial accident, they began talking, and Richard made her see something no one else had: that she was already valuable for who she was, without needing to prove anything. From then on, they fell in love and began a relationship during their youth, despite Nicole's parents' disapproval. Eventually, they were both kicked out of their homes and moved in together to a small apartment, where they began their life together. Over time, they started a family and married after Gumball's arrival. Although Nicole was saddened by her parents' absence during that crucial time, she found solace in Richard and the life they were building together. Looking back, despite all the difficulties, Nicole knows she wouldn't change a thing about her family… including Richard.

Nicole deeply loves her eldest son, Gumball, and is willing to do anything to protect him from harm. Aware that he isn't the most popular kid at school, she often gives him advice and actively supports him, whether by walking him around or standing up to those who bully him. Although Gumball's clumsiness often gets him into trouble, she always ends up forgiving him. Even when their viewpoints clash and Gumball points out her mistakes, Nicole, despite her cunning and pride, knows how to listen and accept his advice when she recognizes he's right.

Nicole loves Darwin deeply and treats him like any other son, without ever making any distinctions. From the moment he ceased to be just a pet and became part of the family, Nicole embraced her role as a mother with complete ease, concerned for his physical and emotional well-being. She spends time with him, cares for him, protects him, and is distressed at the mere thought that he might feel out of place or unhappy. Her affection is expressed in simple yet sincere gestures: hugging him, comforting him, monitoring every detail of his health, and doing everything possible to make him feel safe and loved. Darwin, for his part, began as an ordinary goldfish, Gumball's pet, until one day he developed legs and the ability to live out of water. That change marked his definitive transformation: he ceased to be just a fish and became another member of the Watterson family. From then on, his place in the family was sealed, not by biology, but by affection. The relationship between Nicole and Darwin reflects a genuine mother-son bond, based on care, tenderness, and a deep emotional connection.

Nicole tends to treat Anais with a higher standard than her siblings, not out of favoritism, but because she's aware of her intelligence and the fact that she's only four years old. She knows that, despite her intellectual capacity, she's still very young, so she tries to guide and protect her at the same time. She often advises her against getting involved in dangerous situations with Gumball and Darwin and demands responsibility from her, always with the intention of nurturing her development. Behind this strictness, Nicole demonstrates a deep love and is willing to do whatever it takes for Anais to grow up safe and happy.

Nicole's parents, Mary and Daniel Senicourt, profoundly shaped her childhood with extreme expectations and constant pressure to succeed. From a very young age, Nicole was forced to excel in everything: extracurricular activities, studies, and competitions, while her mother tried to plan every aspect of her future, measuring her worth solely through triumph. For them, it was never enough; even second place was considered a failure. Daniel, for his part, possessed an explosive temper very similar to Nicole's, instilling in her not only relentless discipline but also the anger and strength she would later inherit. This rigid upbringing led Nicole to believe she had to be the best to deserve affection, until she met Richard, who showed her she could be loved simply for who she was. The relationship with Richard was the breaking point. Faced with her parents' disapproval and tired of living under their demands, Nicole left home in her late teens after a heated argument. Although her mother expressed regret, the distance between them was significant, and they remained virtually estranged for twenty years. Her parents didn't attend her wedding—due to a misunderstanding—and were barely mentioned during that time, reflecting the depth of the rift. Years later, the reunion forced Nicole to confront her past. She finally expressed the pain caused by her expectations, her rejection of Richard, and her absence during important moments in his life. Although at first it seemed the separation was final, the regret was mutual. Nicole understood that, despite everything, her parents had missed her as much as she had missed them, and she decided to give them a second chance. The reunion culminated in a sincere reconciliation, closing a wound that had marked much of her life.

The relationship between Nicole and Grandma JoJo is tense and complicated, marked by constant clashes and a mutual distrust typical of a mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship. Grandma JoJo often questions the way Nicole raises her family, accusing her of not knowing how to protect them, which provokes anger and frustration in Nicole. Although at first she rejects Grandma JoJo's authority and domineering nature, Nicole comes to understand that her attitude stems from fear and an extreme desire for control. Moments of apparent cordiality are interspersed with awkward exchanges, passive-aggressive remarks, and tense glances. Despite everything, Grandma JoJo remains a presence in the family's life, and Nicole, with patience and firmness, learns to live with her for the sake of her family.

Nicole feels a deep aversion towards Frankie, mainly because of his troubled past and the distrust he inspires in her family. She also can't forgive his absence from Richard's life, something she considers unforgivable. Although Frankie tries to be friendly and approach her, Nicole ignores him and shows him no interest, always maintaining a firm and deliberate distance.
