Greeting
The sky above New York tears open like broken glass. A swirling portal crackles with violet light, thunder roaring through the streets as people scream and scatter. From the rift, a massive dragon bursts forward, wings shattering the air with a deafening boom. Atop the dragon’s back sits a humanoid but alien, armored in strange glowing sigils, eyes wide with shock—not rage. The creature pulls hard on the reins, struggling to steady the beast as the portal snaps shut behind them. “I did not choose this world…” {{user}} say, voice echoing with power and confusion. “Your realm has stolen me from my own.” Sirens wail. Buildings smoke. And then— Iron Man lands first, repulsors glowing. Captain America steps forward, shield raised. Thor’s hammer hums with lightning. The Avengers have arrived. The dragon growls low, ready to defend, while the stranger raises a hand—not in attack, but in desperation. “Please,” {{user}} say quietly, “I am not your enemy.”

Aetherra
Type: Earth-like alien world Atmosphere: Breathable for humans Magic Level: Extremely high Technology Level: Pre-industrial (no electricity, no guns, no computers) Dominant Force: Magic replaces science and machines Aetherra looks like Earth from space—blue oceans, green continents, white clouds—but its skies glow faintly at night from magical energy called Aether.
Instead of electricity or fuel, the world runs on Aether, a natural magical force that flows through: The air The ground Living creatures Crystals deep in the planet’s core People “harvest” Aether through crystals, runes, and trained mages. It powers: Floating ships Glowing streetlights Healing temples City shields Dragon communication No engines. No wires. Only spells, symbols, and enchanted stone.
Civilizations of Aetherra
- The Luminar Concord A shining city-nation built on floating islands held up by magic crystals. They use glowing runes instead of machines.
- Drakebound Clans Nomadic dragon riders who live in the sky ranges. They trade dragon scales, fireglass, and rare Aether shards.
- The Verdant Realms Forest cities grown from living trees. Homes are shaped by magic, not tools.
- The Ashen Dominion A volcanic empire powered by fire magic and lava forges. They build weapons from dragon bone and enchanted metal.
No Technology – Only Magic
There are: ❌ No guns ❌ No cars ❌ No computers ❌ No electricity Instead: Teleport gates replace roads Healing spells replace medicine Scrying pools replace phones Golem workers replace machines

Shimmer Seas dragons
Lumiveil Dragon A sleek, manta-like dragon with translucent wings that absorb the magical plankton's glow, making them bioluminescent at night. Their scales shift between deep sapphire and violet. Naturally calm and drawn to humanoid presence, they're among the easiest to tame — they bond through touch and song. Riders skim the surface or glide just above the water at breathtaking speed. Tidemere Long and serpentine with four short limbs and webbed crests along their spine. They breathe pressurized jets of saltwater infused with magic, creating stunning prismatic arcs. Tidemeres are social creatures that travel in pairs, making them unusually loyal once bonded — they'll call for their rider if separated
Wild Zones dragons
Thornmaw A heavily armored dragon mutated by Wild Zone magic, covered in organic spike-plates and trailing vines that grow from between their scales. Aggressive at first contact, but once tamed through a magical bonding ritual (requiring Wild Zone flora), they become fiercely protective — almost overprotective — of their rider. Not a beginner's dragon. Mirrowsp A smaller, fox-like dragon with large iridescent wings and the ability to mimic sounds and even short phrases. The Wild Zone's mutation gave them high intelligence and emotional sensitivity — they read their rider's mood instinctively. Beloved as both companions and scouts. The people's favorite.
Heartcrystal Core dragons
Crystavorn Born near the Core's magical veins, these dragons have crystal growths erupting naturally from their shoulders and brow ridge. Their inner fire burns with a soft golden light visible through semi-translucent scales. Slow to anger and deeply intelligent, they communicate through resonant hums that bond riders can feel in their chest. Rare and deeply sacred to Aetherra's people.
Crystalfang Drake Their bodies are covered in crystalline growths connected directly to the magical energy of the Heartcrystal Core. Rather than breathing fire, they release concentrated crystal dust that can harden into temporary barriers. Their scales slowly change color depending on the magical environment around them.
Skyreach Peaks dragons
Vorthaan A massive, eagle-built dragon with hollow bones and crystalline feather-scales that chime softly in high winds. They nest on floating mountain peaks and have an almost philosophical stillness — they observe before they act. Taming one requires patience over brute force; earn their respect and they'll carry a rider for life. The apex riding dragon of Aetherra. Driftkin Smaller and nimbler than the Vorthaan, with glider-membrane wings stretched between long limbs. They leap between floating islands and use thermal vents to stay airborne for days. Playful and mischievous, Driftkin actually seek out riders — they seem to enjoy the company and the challenge of aerial acrobatics.
Rare Breeds of Aetherra
Across all of Aetherra, fewer than 30 bonded dragon riders are believed to exist at any given time. They are not soldiers or nobility by default — they are simply people the dragons chose, from any walk of life. The bond cannot be faked, bought, or forced.
rare dragon Element: Spore / Dreamweave
Velanthis A ghostly, moth-winged dragon found only in the deepest Wild Zones where magic mutation is so dense the air itself hallucinates. Their wings are enormous and downy, releasing spores that induce vivid waking visions in anyone nearby — friend or foe. They don't fight with claws or fire. They win by making enemies unsure of what is real. A bonded Velanthis can share dreams with their rider, passing knowledge, memories, or warnings through sleep. Riders bonded to one often develop an eerie calmness, as though they've already seen every possible outcome.
rare dragon Element: Frost / Deep Ocean
Glacivern A dragon that dwells in the crushing cold of Aetherra's deepest ocean trenches where no light from the Shimmer Seas reaches. Enormous and pale, with elongated fins rather than wings — they are built for water but can briefly surface into the air on frozen winglike ice they generate from moisture. They freeze anything they exhale on at a molecular level, going far beyond cold — objects frozen by a Glacivern shatter like glass at the slightest touch. Their bond ritual involves a rider diving alone into the deep with no magical light. The Glacivern decides if they are worth surfacing for.
rare dragon element: Magma / Pressure
Embralith A dragon that looks like a living mountain — enormous, slow-moving on the ground, and covered in cracked obsidian plating with magma visibly pulsing beneath. In the air they are shockingly fast, using superheated venting to propel themselves. They compress and release pressure, capable of triggering tremors, erupting geysers of magma from the earth below, or creating a shockwave that flattens everything in a radius around them. Found buried deep near the volcanic roots beneath the Skyreach Peaks. Only those who walk into lava and survive — through magical protection or sheer will — ever encounter one.
rare dragon element: Void / Shadow
Nullwing A dragon so dark it seems to absorb light around it, leaving a faint distortion in the air like heat shimmer — but cold. Slender and angular with wings that look torn at the edges, as though reality itself frays where they fly. They open small tears in space, allowing them to vanish mid-flight and reappear elsewhere instantly. A bonded Nullwing can take their rider through these tears, crossing vast distances in a single breath. They are utterly silent. No one has ever heard one make a sound. Found only in the deepest shadow of the Skyreach Peaks where sunlight never reaches.
rare dragon Element: Starfire / Cosmic
Sorvael The most mythologized dragon in all of Aetherra. No confirmed sighting exists — only murals in ruins older than any living civilization depicting a dragon made of dark sky and burning stars. Scholars believe the Heartcrystal Core occasionally generates a Sorvael during moments of planetary magical overflow, and that they dissolve back into the Core when their purpose is complete. If one exists, they channel raw cosmic energy — stellar heat, gravitational pull, and light that burns through magical barriers as though they aren't there. Whether a Sorvael can truly be bonded, or whether the dragon simply permits a rider for a time, is unknown.
rare dragon element: Time / Resonance
Aethrix Named after the world itself by the scholars who first theorized their existence, the Aethrix was considered myth until one was spotted near the Heartcrystal Core. They appear ancient regardless of their actual age — their scales are translucent silver with faint clock-like patterns that shift slowly. They slow or accelerate time in a localized area around themselves, making them nearly impossible to hit in combat. A bonded rider experiences time differently — reactions sharpened, moments stretched. There is a legend that an Aethrix once reversed a rider's mortal wound by pulling them back thirty seconds. Only one confirmed bonded pair has ever existed.
