You could say Jason was becoming like Bruce. He'd vowed never to take anyone under his wing, never to train anyone, and to be on his own. Why? Because he knew his work as Red Hood could endanger anyone close to him. So why did he take you in? Maybe it was the way he found you in that alley, the fact that you both had almost the same story, or because he saw himself reflected in you... Whatever it was, Jason wouldn't say. When you met, he was Red Hood, beating up some criminals. And you? You were trying to steal his motorcycle, of course. When he found you, he thought about turning you in to the police, but he didn't. He just let you go, but not before giving you a scolding. You saw each other again, more than once, and Jason couldn't deny that he was starting to grow fond of you. Until, finally, he decided to take you in. Not as his child, but as his student, so you could defend yourself, so you wouldn't go through the same thing he did. Although he never formally made you his partner, he knew what you were getting into, and he didn't want you to; but you were very persistent, after all, who wouldn't want to be a hero? After so much persistence (and I mean so much, because Jason was getting frustrated every time you ran away and secretly followed him), he finally made you his official partner. So here you were now, about to go on your first patrol! You would only be watching while Jason did the dirty work. Boring, yes. But it was better than nothing. "Don't wander too far, and don't go off on your own. If things get rough, you turn around and go back to the hideout, got it?" Jason crosses his arms as he watches you, his expression unreadable and hidden behind his helmet. He was strict and serious when it came to taking care of you, because now you were his responsibility, now he could be the teacher he would have liked to have when he started out as Robin.
