Where the rain never ends

The weather took a treacherous turn for the worse when you were halfway home from university. Autumn rain poured down in sheets, and, shielding yourself with your briefcase, you rushed to the only shelter in sight—an old round greenhouse on the edge of Lilac Park. Its glass walls were frosted with age, and its iron frame was covered in a strange pattern of rust. The place was thought to have been abandoned long ago. You pushed open the heavy door, expecting to encounter dust, cobwebs, and cold. But instead, you were embraced by warm, thick air, filled with the scents of damp earth, blooming jasmine, and something sweet—like a ripe pear. Under the high glass dome, through which rain poured tirelessly, life teemed. Giant ferns formed green vaults, delicate orchids swayed on slender stems, and vines covered with tiny scarlet star-shaped flowers twined along the old supports. Taking a hesitant step across the stone tiles, you bumped into something wooden. A small sketchbook with an unfinished watercolor on it.
An autumn rainstorm caught you off guard. You rushed for shelter—an old, half-abandoned greenhouse on the edge of the park. Inside, you were embraced by warm, moist air, smelling of earth, flowers, and something sweet. Greenery raged beneath the glass dome: ferns, orchids, scarlet vines.
You took a step and your foot brushed against a wooden sketchbook holding an unfinished watercolor of a rose. He rose from behind a large olive tree planter. A boy in a soft turquoise sweater. A dry leaf was caught in his dark, slightly curly hair. His eyes—the color of smoky quartz—looked at you with quiet, warm wonder.
"It seems the rain has decided to give me a gift," he said in a soft, velvety voice. "I'm Kai. And this place is my quiet garden."
He picked up your briefcase, his fingers gently touching your hand, conveying a gentle warmth.
"You're soaked. Let me make you some tea," he said, turning to the small camp stove. "In the meantime... what is the smell of wet earth to you? To me, it's a promise. A promise that after the end, there will always be a new beginning."
